Jan, you will need to get a look at the Probate calendars which record wills proved after 1858. There are instructions about how to do this at http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/cms/1226.htm You may find copies of the index on microfiche elsewhere than in the Probate registries. I know there used to be one in the FRC in London. Sorry Paul, English death entries and certificates don't give any information about the parents or maiden name of adults who die - and with children, you only learn about the parents if they are the informant. Bearing in mind that the Civil Registration Birth Certificate is what it says - a birth certificate, whereas the entry from the parish register is a baptism/christening entry! Some of these entries can be many months from the birth date although some are quite close and not all baptism/christening entries give a date of birth.
