The church was built by Sir John Barnsley, a prominent Victorian methodist in B'ham. He was also a JP and stood unsuccessfully once as Liberal MP candidate. He lived in Edgbaston and also built the Council House, War Memorial & General Hospital. Hi Peter, This is definately him, I have plenty of details about him, but little on the bakery he ran, thats where i am stuck. I hoping to come across someone who knows the history of bakeries in Birmingham, or something like that ! A long shot but worth a try.... Web based or other ? I have found a Charles E Wilson aged 33 in the 1901 census who was a baker and confectioner. His wife's name was Ada. He was living at 273 King Edward Road. Is this likely to be him? Hi all My grandfather, William Richard VEASEY lost a leg in an industrial accident in Birmingham. Photographic evidence shows him uninjured in about 1904, but I suspect the accident happened before he married my grandmother in 1918. After he died in 1944, I know my grandmother received a small pension from Belliss and Morcom, so wonder if this is who he was working for at the time of the accident. Does anyone have any suggestions how I might best follow up this line of research? TIA Peter

Sorry I forgot to put her last name in the subject title of the message! ----- Original Message ----- This question has been asked by me before in one guise or another so the people who've read this before please forgive me! For some time I've been looking for the death of my great grandmother Hannah Williams (formerly Rowlands and from Newport born in Pembrokshire) between the ages of 45 and 47 1901-5 (after the census in 1901 and family history says 1905). She lived in Floyer Road Small Heath Birmingham, was married to James Williams 43 in 1901 and had approx 11 children and one grandchild that I know of at that time. I haven't been able to find her yet and I've also tried a few cemetries and had no luck. Has anybody come across her in their researches or looking into Williams family in Small Heath, oh and I think they did live in Aston at one point! Any help appreciated. Lesley
I would think you would get good info from the Jewellery Museum and also Birmingham Central Library, not sure who asked what question now :-) Lesley

The jewellers that I am interested in are Thomas Acott and Alfred Arnold. Arnold worked for Acott and took over the firm on his death. Arnold migrated to Adelaide, South Australia in 1879 but the firm is supposed to have continued operating in his name for several years longer. ----- Original Message ----- From: Lesley To: [email protected] Sent: Saturday, July 19, 2008 11:57 PM Subject: Re: [B'ham] silversmiths ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected] > I found a member of my distant family worked as a silversmith. I have a book "Jewellery Making in Birmingham 1750-1995" by Shena Mason, ISBN 1-86077-079-7, which I bought from a bookstore in Birmingham. It is very interesting to read and talks about some of the Jewellers, Silversmiths, with pictures and photographs, who were around during these years. I recommend this book if you are interested in this trade. I does give a list of Jewellers/Silversmiths who were Members of the Birmingham Jewellery and Silversmiths' Association in 1915, and their addresses. This does not cover all the jewellery traders if they didn't belong to the association..and there were quite a few. I have checked the above list and came up with this: Arnold .. none Aucott, William 8 Augusta Street, JQ (Jewellery Quarter) Georgina Goodby Fisher [email protected] formerly from Sutton Coldfield now in Orange, California 6 miles east of Disneyland _www.goodbytree.org_ (http://www.goodbytree.org/) Goons member #418 One Name Study Goodby In a message dated 7/20/2008 3:04:37 A.M.
