Hello Delia, Sorry but there is no recorded baptism of John Horsfall at St Thomas in 1844. The nearest is 16th June 1845 son of Henry Horsfall and Hannah. If the family lived in Blackshawhead and were Baptists the most likely Chapel would be Mount Zion at Heptonstall Slack but there would be other possibilities such as Eastwood of course. Mount Zion Records are at Calderdale Archives in Halifax. There are several lists of members but 1842-74 at HBR:1 would seem to cover you. You have to order documents the day before you visit. The little library in Hebden Bridge is never too busy, has a good machine and all the census films. Todmorden has all the newspapers however once you get some dates. Good luck.
