    3. Hi everyone, (I thought the subject may catch your attention!!) I have a question or two about a place in Walsden. My 2 x great grandfather owned the leasehold on 8 cottages at Crescent Bottoms, known as Carr Terrace. He lived at no. 33 and on the census returns the address is Crescent Bottoms. (The Carr Terrace connection came from his will). His daughter and her family also lived at Crescent Bottoms. By the 1900's they were at 811 Rochdale Road. In fact they were still there in 1915 as that is the address where my father was born. The house is the middle terrace of three on the same side of the road as Gordon Riggs Garden Centre, a bit higher up. They are/were back to backs, and the street that runs off Rochdale Road at the side of the terrace is Law Street. The river runs immediately behind the houses - about 2 yards from the back door. I know that this area was called Bottoms - and that Gordon Riggs is in the old Bottoms Mill where my grandmother used to work. My question is - where was Crescent Bottoms known as Carr Terrace? Did its name change to Rochdale Road at some point, or did the family move? Law Street is important because my 2 x great grandfather who owned the 8 cottages was William Law. The family was well off financially, so why would they bring up all their many children in a small back-to-back, unless of course they owned the leasehold!! If no-one knows the answer, could someone advise me where I might find the information? Linda
