    3. Esther, I also have some Sutcliffes in my family, and they lived in Walsden. Perhaps they might be related to yours, if we could get back another generation or two! Can anyone tell me where Langfield is, in relation to Walsden? I haven't found any of mine in Langfield yet, but you never know. My ancestors were Samuel Sutcliffe, a stone mason, who was 33 years old in the 1851 census, so born in about 1817 or 1818. He lived in Lanebottom, Walsden in 1851 with his wife Betty (aged 32), and they were both born in Walsden. I don't yet have any details of their marriage, or baptisms. Later one or two of their children were Methodists, but I'm not sure that all of them were, as a couple were in the pub and beer selling trade! Samuel Sutcliffe would have married Betty in about 1839 or 1840, as their oldest son, Richard, was ten years old in the 1851 census. If anyone has details of this marriage, I would be grateful to hear from them. I don't know what Betty's maiden name was. Anne

    3. Hello Esther, I have a file containing extracts of various census returns for Walsden, and some Todmorden. There are some Sutcliffes, Stotts and Fieldens, aswell as many other surnames. These may not be of use to you now, but may come in handy later on when you know a little more about your family. If you would like me to email it to you, please let me know. This goes for anyone else aswell. Cheers, Linda
