    3. Hello, I am a new subscriber and would like to share what information I have (and hopefully receive information too) on Todmorden families. My main interest is the Holt family, who were Picker makers and had mills at Shade and Eastwood, Their business started at Sourhall in the building that later became an isolation hospital. Prior to picker making they seem to have been farmers. Other names which feature a lot in my family tree include Cockcroft, Sutcliffe and Fielden. I've looked on Rootsweb at the messages that have already been sent and think it is possible that I may be able to help out with some of the queries that people have. I have quite a few books on Todmorden, some fairly new, others very old, which I am quite happy to go through to find information to help other people in their research. I work full time though, and also assist with a local Cub pack so if I'm sometimes a bit slow to respond please forgive me. One of the books, 'Walsden Families in Olden Times', by John Travis, which was published in 1903 contains a lot of information on family histories.Where the family originated, what they did for a living, who they married etc. The families mentioned are Fielden, Bottomley, Hollinrake, Howarth, Dawson, Hill, Greenwood, Taylor, Jackson, Schofield, Crossley, Law, Newell, Jackson, Haigh, Barker. I think the Law family is almost certainly the same family Linda has been asking questions about as I have found a reference to a William Law marrying firstly Sarah Law, his cousin and then secondly Hannah Woodhead of Top-o'th'-hill. If you don't have the book and would like more information please let me know. Best wishes Sally --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). 3. Hi Sally, I have made this message high priority because I have been trying to get hold of that Travis book for years. The library in Tod. won't send it out on loan via the inter-library scheme. Is it a large book, or would some of it photocopy or scan? I have 3 of his other books which are great, but it's that one I want!!! Where did you get it from? That William Law you mention is my 2 x great grandfather. My Crossleys were inter-married with that branch of the Laws. Please reply, I'm so envious!! I have a lot of Tod. and Walden registers, census' and MI's etc. if I can help you. Best wishes, Linda Linda.Briggs1@btinternet.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sally Hinchliffe" <sally.hinchliffe@btinternet.com> To: <ENG-TODMORDEN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, April 28, 2002 6:21 PM Subject: [ENG-TOD] New subscriber.
