    1. [ENG-TOD] ROYTON NEAR TODMORDEN
    2. Colin Hinson
    3. Hi Linda, Are you sure that the Royton you are looking for isn't the one near Oldham? The reason I ask is that in the 1700s, the Royton near Oldham would have been in Oldham parish (later in Prestwich parish), and Oldham parish was adjacent to Rochdale parish. In the same period (i.e. before 1834), Todmorden was part in Rochdale parish and part in Huddersfield parish despite being totally in Yorskshire - see my Genuki Yorkshire pages). This of course would make the Royton near Oldham in the parish adjacent to the parish that Todmorden was in. Hope this helps, Best wishes, Colin Hinson In the village of Blunham in Bedfordshire U.K. Maintainer of the Genuki Yorkshire pages: http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/ Rare Books on CD: http://www.blunham.demon.co.uk/CDroms/ Baine's & Bulmers directories, History of Craven, Heywood/Northowram, National gazetteer of Great Britain & Ireland, Whelan's York & NRY >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Hi everyone, I am looking for a small district near Todmorden called Royton. (Not the one near Oldham) Does anyone know of it. It was there in the 1700's. Thanks Linda Linda.Briggs1@btinternet.com

    3. Hi Colin, I think you must be right. I was just hoping there may have been a hamlet or area known as Royton within Tod. Clutching at straws is the phrase I am looking at! One of my people was married at Heptonstall by licence and there was a note at the side saying Royton. Fine, except that this person was born and bred in Todmorden area - he was one of the minor Crossleys from Scaitcliffe and lived at Lower Ashes near Cross Stones. I notice you have the History of Craven in you list and I was wondering if it covers Austwick? Thank you for replying to me, Linda Linda.Briggs1@btinternet.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "Colin Hinson" <Colin@blunham.demon.co.uk> To: <ENG-TODMORDEN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, April 18, 2002 8:28 AM Subject: [ENG-TOD] ROYTON NEAR TODMORDEN Hi Linda, Are you sure that the Royton you are looking for isn't the one near Oldham?
