    3. **** List Admin message please read **** This is a warning about a virus hoax. I am posting the warning to the list because it has been reported via another list and because I have been sent the hoax myself. Any replies to me privately please, and not to the list. The hoax urges you to delete a file which is actually the "Microsoft Debugger Registrar for Java". Although it is possible for the file to be infected by a virus, it is the subject of the hoax. The wording of the hoax may vary, but it will always refer to a file called JDBGMGR.EXE Some versions of the hoax misreport the name of this file as JDBMGR.EXE or JBDGMGR.EXE. More details at: http://www.sophos.com/virusinfo/hoaxes/jdbgmgr.html Please DO NOT to pass on warnings of this kind, as the continued re-forwarding of these hoaxes simply wastes time and email bandwidth - and makes your friendly listowner cross! 2. Carol, TreeTops
    3. http://www.dreamwater.net/treetops/Todmorden.htm Hi all, Above the address of the Todmorden Web Page attached to this List. Just been created so needing lots and lots more info to go onto it. What it does need is a listing of Books available and useful web sites. I know I could go through previous mailings and take off useful books, web links etc but would prefer it if you could re-send them to the admin address, so giving me permission to use your findings. There is a small list of Tod people mentioned on the site, can you add to it? Short description of places in Todmorden, again can you add to it. Any more suggestions as to what could go on the web site would also be appreciated. 2. Anne Curnow
    3. Andrea, Thanks for sending the events of 1880 - very interesting. I would be grateful if you could also send me the text files of the United Methodist Free Church Lumbutts, and the list of members for the Todmorden local board, school board and musical society. I am hoping some of my family members will be mentioned, as at least some of them were Methodists, and had connections with music too, although a few of them had moved away from Todmorden by 1881. 3. Jack, No, I think I would remember a name like Fleetwood Crossley. I am really struggling with one branch - the lot originating in Wadsworth. I have a different branch who originated from Walsden and I'm in a mess with those now, thanks to John Travis! Still, it keeps me off the streets! 2. Kent Kirkham
    3. Anne & Linda, Thanks for your interest. My connection with Todmorden is that one of Jane Ormerod's sisters, Martha, married Charles Woodhead. Their daughter, Betsy married a Mr. John M. Mitten. Their son, John M. Mitton Jr. was mayor of Todmorden from about 1942 until 1945. I have communicated by letter with the Mittons and they seem very pleasant, but all the blood family and their stories have died. I understand there is still a Woodhead garage in the area, but have had no luck in receiving any replies to letters. I do not know if any of the descendants of Charles Woodhead and Martha Ormerod are still alive or not. So, that is my connection to Todmorden. One child, a daughter named Martha was born to William Kirkham and Jane Ormerod before they emigrated to the States. She was born 10 November 1861. The next child was born in 1863 here in Illinois. So I assume they left the U.K. In 1862. Is there an 1861 census that it is possible to check? You might be interested in another story. In 1874, William decided to buy virgin prairie in Iowa. When Jane and the children arrived at on the night train in Adair, Iowa she saw what she perceived to be the lights of great metropolis on the horizon. As she had been told there were no cities anywhere, she was quite confused and somewhat bewildered. What she was seeing was the burning of the prairie by homesteaders before they attempted to break the sod. She and the family actually had to live in a soddie that first winter. Not pleasant at all! If possible, does anyone have a jpeg of St. Mary's, Blackburn and St. Mark's, Witton that they'd be willing to either email me or send me a hard copy? I'd be very willing to pay for film, developing and postage of course. Thanks. Kent Kirkham

    3. Kent, Was it your great grandfather, William Kirkham, and his second wife Jane Ormerod, who emigrated to America? When did they emigrate, or what is the first date that you know that they were in America? I wondered whether they had any children who might have been baptised in England, or whether just the two of them went to America. Anne
