    3. Linda, Many thanks for that kindness. I will now try to see if and where they link with my son-in-law's BARKER line which is through Elizabeth (bo.1840/1) the dau. of William (a carter) and Susan(?) of Tod. BTW I managed to borrow "John Fielden's Todmorden", through the Inter-Library Loan scheme. I have found it a well researched study as well as a fascinating read.It shows what a hot-bed of politics Tod. was. Out of all proportion to its size. The Maps and Photos also help to give an understanding of its history and topography. The account of Working Class Life and Culture is among the best I have studied. The book has tended to convince me that any linkage between John FIELDEN M.P. and James FIELDEN(bo. c.1842/3), choirmaster at St. Mary's and engine turner, is likely to have been remote despite James, in 1881, living at 4 Dobroyd. Dobroyd Castle built by John FIELDEN a descendant of the Honest John. 3. This is for Ernest. I know you have the 1891 CD for Lancashire, and that Tod. is not shown. I was in Tod. library the other day and printed off some 1891 sheets with my own family on. There were some Barkers on this, so I thought I would send them to you. If they do belong to you I have further information about the address - my ancestors lived there. If anyone else is interested in these sheets, please let me know. 3. Peter, I believe you have touched a generational hot wire here in the States. Many younger people have adopted a communication style that omits all commas, apostrophes, etc. for web communications. For those of us trained to read and write more formally, it is disconcerting but also sometimes humorous. For instance he'll will be typed hell which can lead to some real double takes when reading a sentence. I've remonstrated with my acquaintances on more than one instance, but to no avail. Our only hope is that someday their children will probably drive them as nuts as they are us. Remember grandchildren are our revenge! Kent Kirkham kkirkham2021@insightbb.com

If so, can you let us know more specifically who you are looking for, as I have details of a few Sutcliffes, but not many. 2. Linda
    3. Hi all, At last I made it to Todmorden library today. I found quite a few things I was looking for and was pleased with my day, not least because I discovered a few gems in the Tourist Information shop. I spent the first hour trying to train the film reader to my ways. I failed miserably!! I got the hang of it eventually and even managed to use the printer. I went through a few old newspapers but the lens couldn't magnify sufficiently and I found myself squinting at such tiny writing that my eyes gave up, so I moved on to Parish Records and Census. It was well worth the trip. I do like Todmorden. Linda

    3. Linda Sorry for the delay in writing. No - I don't have any notes to help you. I have not come across the LAW or ASHWORTH family at all. My Olive ROBERTSHAW is abit like your record. There is an IGI record of Olive being born to Nancy ROBERTSHAW and William BENTLEY - chr 9Mar1812 at Heptonstall. I don't know if this is my record or not - it is just that the age is right, with the correct mother's name. Then when the mother Nancy, died in 1857, her funeral card was titled Mrs Nancy Robertshaw. So I don't know what her maiden name would be, and no idea who her husband would be or who is Olive's father. And who is William Bentley? Always lots of questions. All the best with your research -I will keep a note of your names. 3. Hi All, Our monthly ADMIN message has been re-vamped. You will now find it on http://www.dreamwater.net/genealogy/AdminMessage.htm Please will you all go an have a look at it - comments and criticisms welcome. There are a few reasons why we have put in on a web page. 1) We do not want to clog up the Rootsweb Archives every month. 2) Those of you who are on more than one of our lists probably do not want to see it more than once. 3) You can now pop on to read it whenever you need to instead of waiting for us to send it. 3. The site mentioned by Jack contains information on some Todmorden names. I wrote to Claire Travis last year but other than what is on the tables she has produced she has no further details. The Travis book she has is mainly about the Crompton area I think and deals with a lot of Travis people. She studies the name Travis as a one name study. Linda
