Hi Surrey Listers, Has anyone got any information of school records including admissions for the Windsor Street Primary/Junior school in Chertsey, please? I am researching my MOORCOCK and STEPTOE families from Chertsey and Addlestone. Thank you in advance, Robin Dawson
Robin, We may have had contact away back in time by snail mail . Steptoe does not show at this time in my Tree. My connection with Moorcock is Thomas MOORCOCK and his wife Harriett SERRIS, & on of their sons' George he born 1821 Barkham, Berkshire. In 1842, he married Mary Ann FIELD, in Egham. Their children have Baptisms in Egham , Chertsey, Addlestone. My line is my Gt Grandfather , John ( 1847) Chertsey. I also look at MORECOCK, as among even Siblings the spelling has variations. I look forward to your comments, Mary -----Original Message----- From: eng-surrey-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:eng-surrey-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Robin & Veronica Dawson Sent: Monday, 17 September 2012 8:41 p.m. To: ENG_SURREY@rootsweb.com Listers Subject: [SRY] School records CHERTSEY Hi Surrey Listers, Has anyone got any information of school records including admissions for the Windsor Street Primary/Junior school in Chertsey, please? Hi Mary, Yes, we have been in contact before but not for a little while now. My great-grandfather John Moorcock was born about 1844 and married Ann Steptoe in 1866 and they had 16 children altogether one of which was my grandfather James Henry Moorcock. My mother Phyllis Mary Moorcock went to the school in Windsor Street, Chertsey and her brother and sister, and possibly some cousins, may have done as well. Hence my query about where information is available for admissions etc. to schools in Chertsey. Incidentally, I have never been able to find the registration entry for my John Moorcock (at one time I was pursuing your John in error!) I know his father was William Moorcock from John and Ann's marriage certificate. I think it must have been mistranscribed - I have checked the obvious spellings but so far no luck. Luckily, thanks to the census etc. I have plenty of details about his life and even where he is buried. Good luck with your searching! Regards, Robin Dawson
Hi Robin Surrey History Centre holds some records of Windsor Street School in Chertsey, although I'm not sure if they include any pupil records. You can check the online catalogue at http://www.surreyarchives.org.uk and it's also worth emailing shs@surreycc.gov.uk. Please note that admissions registers are often subject to a 100-year access restriction.
