For anyone with time to spare during the holiday while the list is slow. My great grandfather, Benjamin GUEST, was born about 1822 in Lambeth, Surrey. I have been unable to find his baptism. On 28 January 1844 Benjamin married Margaret GRIFFITHS who was born in Bangor Is Y Coed, Flintshire, Wales. They married St John's Waterloo, Lambeth. Benjamin's father is recorded as James GUEST, Compositor. It does not say he was deceased which I know doesn't mean he wasn't. I am unable to find Benjamin, a bootmaker, or his father James in the 1841 census. As Margaret GRIFFITHS parents lived in Bangor I suspect the GUESTs may have been in Wales and Benjamin and Margaret met there but the 1841 census for Bangor, Flintshire is not available. However, Margaret's parents are in Bangor in 1851 so it is possible Margaret moved alone to the Surrey area but I am unable to find her on the 1841 census with any certainty as the Griffiths name is fairly prolific. In 1851 Benjamin (transcribed as William Benjamin) and Margaret are living in Finsbury and in 1861 they are living in Lambeth. Their first 2 children, Benjamin, b 1845 and Elizabeth, b 1846 were born in Bangor but their abode was given as London. A third child Charles was born 1848 Bloomsbury, Middlesex. I would be thrilled to find the baptism of Benjamin GUEST and anything at all on his father James...........or any ideas that might push me to look in another direction. Thank you, Marg >From the Beautiful British Columbia Cariboo Region, Canada
There is a baptism of Benjamin John Guest at Clapham Holy Trinity, Borough of Lambeth, son of John and Susan GUEST but not until 19 April 1835. There is no indication of birth date. John is a Carpenter and their abode is Clapham. Given the date, and the different names of the fathers, it is unlikely that this is correct but could be a relative.
