The National Archive is the archive for government information and is arranged by main government departments. The catalogue is arranged in a hierarchical scheme. TNA site has a lot of assistance and explanations available from its Home Page. See 'Research Guides'. Their pages include links into short videos that explain what the archives contain, how stuff is organised and how to use the catalogue. There are also a number of excellent ipod downloads that expand on various sections of the archive. Finally there is a Help link at the bottom of the home page Google for '"Brompton Row" and London' gives many hits, including http://archivemaps.com/mapco/darton1814/darton17.htm Compare this with http://www.urbanpath.com/london/department-stores/harrods/map.htm Have you looked at the overseas and marine death records on Findmypast?
