I have found a burial record for someone at St. Philip Church in Battersea in 1874. Did this church have a graveyard on site? If not, where would be the most likely cemetery for that area? Many thanks for any help you can give. Teresa in Canada
Hi Teresa Are you sure? There was no churchyard at St Philip, burials within the metropolis (of which Battersea was deemed to be part) having been discontinued by Act of Parliament in the 1850s, before the church was even built, and the church does not even have a burial register. The nearest cemetery at that time would have been St Mary's Cemetery in Battersea Rise. Go to http://www.wandsworth.gov.uk/info/200032/deaths_funerals_and_cremations/86/c emeteries_and_crematorium/10 for details. Hope this helps Caroline > I have found a burial record for someone at St. Philip Church in > Battersea in 1874. Did this church have a graveyard on site?
