    3. The best present I could get would be contact with descendants of Ethel Annie FARMER (b 26 Jan 1881 in Deptford), who married her second cousin, Frederick Hamilton HOLLAND (b 6 June 1881 in Rotherhithe) , on 21 August 1911 at St Peter, Deptford. Frederick was a schoolmaster (elementary), was gazetted temp 2nd Lt in the Army Ordnance Dept in 1917 and, if the medal card for Frederick H Holland RGA is his, survived the War. Possible children are Ronald F Holland b 1913, Derek H Holland b 1921 and Kenneth A B Holland b 1922 all registered in Lewisham with mother's surname Farmer. Any HOLLAND descendants might just know what happened to Ethel's grandfather! Ethel Annie was the granddaughter of my missing great-great uncle, Amos Nathaniel FARMER, who disappeared without trace after his second marriage (to Elizabeth MOORE)at St Dunstan's West in 1855, leaving his son Amos Alfred FARMER (by his first wife, Eliza DAY, who died in childbirth in 1853) to be brought up by his parents, Edward Thomas & Susannah FARMER in Bermondsey. I have all the certificates and have found Amos Alfred in all relevant censuses. Amos Alfred FARMER married his first cousin Annie Maria FARMER in Bermondsey 1880 and AFAIK, they had only the one child, Ethel Annie. (There may, of course, have been others who were born and died between censuses.) Amos Nathaniel FARMER (who was enumerated as Nathaniel at school in 1841) has appeared in no census since 1851. I haven't found him on any passenger list or any overseas census or BMD register either in the UK or elsewhere. Amos Alfred's marriage certificate shows his father as 'Amos Nathaniel Farmer Gentleman' (he was a corn chandler on his first marriage certificate and Amos Alfred's birth certificate and a hay agent on his second marriage certificate). Delusions of grandeur must run in the family as Ethel Annie's certificate shows Amos Alfred as Gentleman too - he was a mercantile clerk according to the 1881, 1891, 1901 and 1911 censuses. As more and more genealogical databases from all over the world become available online, I live in hope that Amos Nathaniel will eventually be found. I just hope I'm still around! 3. Hello Anne, I saw your EM today and thought that I would give you a quick reply to your query. My name is Don FRASER and I have been trying to make sense of my family tree for many years now without much luck. One of my earliest ancestors is a William LUCK circ 1640 possibly from Kent. He had 4 children Thomas. William, Anne Edmund. There were many more descendants, but I will skip these and go on to Anne LUCK b 1666 Albury Surrey, who married a John HOLLAND 11 Nov. 1696 at Merrow Surrey They had children:- Elizabeth b 1698 Shipley, Sussex Jane b 1701 Shipley. Mary b.1703 Shipley Phillip b 1705 Shipley Ann b 1708 Shipley John b 1710 Shipley My great Grand Mother was a Sarah Ann Marshall b. Portsea Portsmouth 1855 and married a William FARMER b 1852 at Hilsea , Portsmouth I am descended from this line. I have many more names of HOLLAND etc, but unfortunately I was working away on my machine a few weeks ago when it received a pretty powerful surge during a Thunder Storm. My computer was burnt out, but I was lucky enough to have most things 'backed up' so I am not yet back to normal. If you think that we may have something in common, please give me a shout. I am quite happy to share everything that I might have, if it is of any interest to you. In the meantime I will work on getting my files back in order. Good hunting Don FRASER. Incidentally, what part of Aus. are you from ?

    3. hello Anne, Oh this has made me wake up. This is not Surrey based, but I have a Holland that may have married a Farmer. William Holland, b. 1796, Burford Oxfordshire married an Ann, my best guess is that her maiden name was Farmer and they married in 1829. They lived in the Marylebone area, he appears on the census returns as a Grocer there. Ring any bells?
