Hi everyone, I have a photo of my husband's grandfather, ALAN KELSEY, who was a carpenter, outside a large old Elizabethan style house, with two of his workmates (Alan is holding his saw in one hand). On the back of the photo is written 'Summerfield, Ewhurst', but I can't find anything out about that house via google. Can anyone tell me if it still exists, or where it was. TIA Janet, Auckland, New Zealand

Can't readily find anything on Summerfield in Ewehurst or Cranleigh which seems strange if it was extant in the past hundred or so years. Michael's suggestions are good. Just a thought though - one of the old Manors of Ewhurst was Summersbury (Somerbury). Could the name have been misquoted? Hi Janet A quick perusal of the British history online lists the manors of Ewhurst - and summerfield is not there, however as others have noted Somersbury is....... http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=42937&strquery=manors%20+%20ewhurst#s3 perhaps typing in "Somersbury manor" on google earth might afford a picture that I cannot seem to find online and you may be able to compare with the photo.
