    3. My Christmas wish has been the same for many years now and that is too find a marriage for my gg grandparents Joseph BROWN and Caroline ALLSOP so that I can find their parents names and go further back with my tree. I have a birth certificate for my g grandmother ( their eldest daughter ) Caroline Alice BROWN dated July 10 , 1870. She was born in Union Workhouse , Guildford to Caroline BROWN and no father listed. The next sighting is the 1871 census where I find Joseph age 23 , born Yorkshire, Caroline age 21 born London ,Middlesex and baby Alice age 9 months born Guildford, living as lodgers at the Old Kings Head Inn in Dorking , Surrey . In 1881 they are living in Westcott , Surrey and Joseph's birthplace is Lambeth ,Surrey age 27 and Caroline gives hers as Walworth , Surrey age 26. In 1891 (age 45 ) and 1901 (age 54 ) Joseph's birthplace is listed as Bradford , Yorkshire and Caroline in 1891 (age 43 ) has London , Walworth and in 1901 (age 50 ) London , Borough . Caroline and Joseph lived the rest of their lives in Westcott and had several more children , including Joseph ,Elizabeth ,Ann , Henry , Fanny ,William , George and James. It was from the birth registrations of some of these later children that I learned that Caroline's maiden name was ALLSOP. Strangely enough they were able to keep all their children's ages correct on various census but not their own ages. I would love to find a marriage for them or a baptism for Caroline because there are too many Joseph BROWNs to order certs without a fathers name. I am open to any and all suggestions the great people on this list may offer . Pat Marshall Ontario , Canada Happy Holidays

    3. Hi Pat Have you tried the baptisms on Ancestry London Parish site? I found my gt grandmother's baptism which gave her birth date - she had always been a year out with only a vague birthplace? So had the only census found while a child I had been looking for 25+ years. Cheers Jo Pat Marshall wrote: > > My Christmas wish has been the same for many years now and that is too find a > marriage for my gg grandparents Joseph BROWN > and Caroline ALLSOP so that I can find their parents names and go further back with > my tree. > I have a birth certificate for my g grandmother ( their eldest daughter ) Caroline > Alice BROWN dated July 10 , 1870. 3. Hi Jo Yes I have tried Ancestry , in fact I subscribed when I heard they were putting London baptisms and marriages online but alas , no joy. Congratulations on finding your grandmother and I will live in hope of having a breakthrough like yours but I hope I don't have to wait 25 years ! Thanks for taking the time to reply and Happy Holidays Pat ----- Original Message ----- From: "jo mason" <jo.mason@swsmail.net> To: <eng-surrey@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, December 07, 2009 4:43 PM Subject: Re: [SRY] Still looking for Brown and Allsop Hi Pat Have you tried the baptisms on Ancestry London Parish site? 3. Hello Pat I think this could be the marriage you're looking for: Joseph Ainsworth BROWN and Caroline ALSOP Dec Qtr 1841 Leicester 15 161 (FreeBMD) You will see that Joseph's surname has also been transcribed as BRUCE by the same transcriber and again by another transcriber as BURN. Have a look at the 1851 Census HO107/2329 Folio 443 Page 17. This could be your Joseph and Caroline. 1861 Census - Joseph and Caroline RG9/3433 Folio 106 Page 1. You say you have a birth certificate for your great grandmother Caroline Alice BROWN. Her mother was Caroline BROWN, who would have been your gr gr grandmother. The 1871 Census shows Caroline Brown's parents as Henry BROWN and Caroline BROWN. (RG10/459 Folio 72 Page 13). Your Caroline Alice BROWN is on the 1881 Census as age 10, with parents Joseph and Caroline Brown. No doubt the reason her father is not listed on her birth certificate is because he was only 17 when Caroline Alice was born and her mother was 16. I'm curious to know where you got Joseph BROWN and Caroline ALLSOP from.
