To add to Anne's reply, the search facility at gazettes-online works via OCR (Optical Character Recognition) - i.e. the text is searched by a clever(ish) piece of software, not indexed by human hand. So it is by no means 100% accurate. Sometimes a manual browse can pay dividends. Your ancestor will only appear if he was declared bankrupt. If he managed to satisfy his creditors before the business folded, or if he was obliged to sell up, then he may not appear in the official notices. Have you tried Trade Directories?
