    3. Thanks for your reply. Sue. Yes, I have found her family on the census but she wasn't with them. I have her in 1851(in Liverpool) and 18619at school in Wiltshire) and I know that she taught English at a Convent in Paris in 1865 for a year. She then disappears 'til 1901 and 1911, when she is in Surrey with her Uncle who is a retired Bank of England Clerk and a widower. Your help is really appreciated as this really has me stumped! She can be seen in 1901 living with her uncle in Newington but is recorded as "Elizabett". I have tried alternate spellings for HASKEW (Askew, Ascough, Haskieu) without any luck. She may well have been a teacher. Any help or guidance would be appreciated. > Thanks, > > Jan > in sultry Queensland > *************************************** > _________________________________________________________________ View your other email accounts from your Hotmail inbox. 3. Hi Jan Given what you say about Emily's life, so far as you know it, and noting that a number HASKEW women seem to have been teachers, it seems to me that it is highly likely that she too had a career in education. She may have taught abroad for the whole of the period she is "missing", though it also possible that she could have taught in the UK but have been away at the time of one or more of the censuses (which could well have coincided with the easter school holidays (quite long, even in those days). It would have been quite normal for a well bred, spinster lady to have taken trips to destinations of cultural interest on the Continent. Easter would have been a good time to do this, to avoid the excessive heat in the summer. Hope this helps Caroline > -----Original Message----- > From: eng-surrey-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:eng-surrey- > bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Neil & Jan Hearn > Sent: 04 October 2009 22:11 > To: eng-surrey@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [SRY] HASKEW > > Thanks for your reply.
