    3. Hi Michael Welcome to the list. A couple of things - minor, but important. Always start a new posting and have a relevant subject line. I've amended this one to include the Surrey surnames you've included in this posting, and got rid of the old subject line as people with an interest in the same surnames may have deleted it without looking. It's always a good idea to put surnames in capitals - they then stand out and it distinguishes them from place names that are also found as surnames. Have you googled for Eric Coates? You might find something on his family. Don't be put off if never-met cousins never surface via Rootsweb. I've found only 1 that way. 2 or 3 others I've found by googling, searching via surnames, websites, lists of individuals, etc, and I can trace my line back to around 1660, so you can see, there must be loads of cousins out there that I've yet to stumble across!! I sometimes think I'm the only one searching! So check all your names in google and ancestry. There may just be someone out there who has that relative on the outskirts of their tree. And try the varies Rootsweb lists - there is a search facility on their home page. Try Genes Reunited but don't hand over all your research to anyone all in one go, and certainly don't add anyone to the tree you put on there who is still alive. Many a tales been told of trees that were opened to others, 'stolen', and then appeared somewhere with living peoples details revealed, or incorrectly added to other peoples trees 'because it fits'. Unfortunately some people are very lazy and don't double-check by buying certs, looking at sources, etc., and what they end up is a hodge-podge of information which bears little to reality. I hope I haven't put you off!
