    3. Hi Peter Well that certainly lends weight to the argument he is connected A question might be how is the name marked on the post card photo? Is it printed or written by hand, if by hand is it possible the sender or receiver had their facts wrong? Just a thought to muddy the waters <g> Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Hello Nivard, > The photograph I have was given to me by a cousin I found > living at Kingston upon Thames, it was amongst a number of others in a > folder her mother had received from another cousin ( Claudian Nicholl) to > whom it was sent upon the death of Frances Bates whom I mentioned in my > query, so I feel that this child is one of us. 3. Hello Nivard, The postcard I have is handwritten and addressed to Fan, 42 Hill Rise Richmond Surrey, (Fan being Frances Bates) It is very clearly marked Richard Victor Whittington 5 Months 19lbs 28 1/2 inches, and still has the original green halfpenny stamp attached.I would think it was sent by one of the child's parents, possibly the mother. Frances to whom the photo was sent was one of twelve children of George and Caroline Whittington, she had five brothers who could have had sons to carry on this line of Whittingtons, but to the best of my knowledge only two of them had sons ,Cecil who had one son but he died on his twenties , and George (my grandfather)so it would appear that the name only carries on here in Australia. The other possibilities are that one of her other brothers is the father of Richard Victor, and I have not yet found which, or that Richard Victor is the son of a cousin, which would mean that George the Hatter (my great grandfather)also had cousins. I have done a bit of digging in this area and there was a Henry Whittington born Somerset 1838 (where my great grandfather indicates he was born)this Henry appears in the 1891 census with a son also named Henry at Petworth Sussex, and a Henry Victor Whittington married Rose Ann Harwood (sounds like Howard) also at Petworth in 1895.This is all speculation but I cannot rule out any possibility. I hope I am not boring you with all this and am grateful of any assistance I am given.
