Hi Chris The entry in the IGI is taken from the Bishops Transcripts and not from the Parish Register of Worplesdon. I seem to recall this cropping up previously simply because there was a question mark over the location of the BTs for Worplesdon (The LDS has them erroneously catalogued as being held somewhere strange such as Warwick or Worcs Record Office). After emailing the Record Offices in both Warks/Worcs and the LMA I established the LDS catalogue is incorrect, and it was established that the BTs for the period are at London Metropolitan Archives - where one would expect them to be. So an email to LMA should be able to confirm the entry in the BTs. It's perfectly possible for an entry to be in the BTs but not in the parish register. It was a common practice for the clergy or their clerk to write up the CMBs in a rough book first and then to transfer the information to the formal registers and the returns for the Bishop. If LMA confirm an entry in the BTs then it would seem fairly reliable, as it couldn't have been there without some kind of record from which to copy the information in the first place. Please do let us know how you get on. Ann Surrey Admin
