    1. [SRY] Prerequisite for burial look ups?
    2. Hi, and thanks for the generous offer! I'm quite unfamiliar with the documents and systems that would let me know where and when my relatives in Surrey were buried. How might I get the prerequisite information in order to request a lookup? This is an open question for any kind member of this list. In specific, I've looked up death information in the BMD sites for my ggggrandfather Samuel Drummer. His name has also been written as Durner, Dumer, Dummer, Drummers, Drummell, Drummells, etc. His birth year was 1801, and he died between 1841 (Hammersmith census) and 1851 (when his widow and children are in the Lambeth census--anyway, I think it's Lambeth, but don't have the info right at my fingertips). I've spotted a few people who might be him, but it could get quite expensive, sending out money for death certificates that are so iffy. I know where he was married, and where his children where christened--might this be a good indicator? Also, he was a humble brickmaker then laborer, so don't think he had much in the way of property to dispose of, and maybe not even a will--I've done some cursory searching but don't even really know where to start. His wife, my ggggrandmother, was Sarah Martin Drummer (etc. with the surnames). I think she remarried to an Archer, since my gggrandmother, Sophia Drummer, was in service in 1861 with a Sarah Archer that was born the same year and place--Hammersmith--as her mother. There was also a Sarah Trummer who married an Archer in what would have been the right time and area to have been her. I'd welcome any help with this. I've been extremely fortunate in finding information on the siblings, their spouses, etc. But no luck whatsoever in finding probable descendents, documentation, etc. As a friend likes to say, "Genealogy without documentation is mythology"... Thanks for any help given here. I'd be glad to reciprocate with American records, if anyone needs help in that department. We have a fine genealogy library and a nearby NARA:-) Nancy Merrill Sayed

    3. Hi Nancy I can see your lot in 1841 under DURNER on Ancestry (a correction has been added) I take it you have the marriage 13 May 1825 in Paddington (funnily enough indexed under Raddington Somerset in the Pallots index <g>) Both made their mark rather than signing Sarah and family are at 7 Bedford Court in 1851 under the name DRUMMOND >From the GRO Deaths Dec 1850 DRUMMOND Samuel Lambeth 4 163 And from Ancestry burials St Mary at Lambeth 1850 Samuel DRUMMOND Bedford Court Oct 7th (age) 49 A NUDGE? (minister) It does look like Sarah remarried to a James ARCHER in 1859, both made their mark and there was a David DRUMER (sic) as a witness (in a very poor hand) Sarahs father is given as Charles MARTIN a Gardener Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Hi, and thanks for the generous offer! 1. Re: [SRY] Prerequisite for burial look ups? Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!
    2. Holy COW!!! I wasn't even dreaming that you'd find anything--just hoping to get some instruction on how to do the preliminary work, and here you've found more in one hour than I've found in years!!!! How did you DO that???!!! I made the correction under Durner, I believe, but can't verify it until I got to the library, where they have the edition that I use. As for the marriage, I knew it was in 1825 in Paddington (and have gone under, over and around with ancestry about correcting the Raddington mistake, to no avail). But I didn't know that it was on 13 May. Again, my deepest thanks for that. I knew that they were in the 1851 census as Drummond, and at 7 Bedford Ct.--they're living with/near family in both the 1841 and 1851 censuses. But I didn't know that Samuel died/was buried as Drummond, since they'd used so many other names. Since they "made their mark", as you say, I'm guessing that neither one knew how to read or write--perhaps that's why the spellings are so erratic). My grandmother Sophia's (their daughter's) signature was very shaky even near her death in 1929, so I suspect that she probably couldn't read or write, either. Also, I think that the David Dumer who was a witness to the marriage, was Sarah and Samuel's son. It's so hard to find them, with the different spellings of their surnames. I believe that I've found one of their children (George) with his grandchild in a later census, one aurnamed Drummond, the other Drummer, or some such (it's hard to tell right off the top of my head, since the greater part of my information is on a hard drive that I can't access right now). I suspected that Sarah was Charles' daughter, from the christening records, but wasn't sure. Now, not only have you given me a name but an occupation. You're amazing, Mr. Ovington!!! Absolutely uncanny how you found all of that so quickly. Do you research for a living? Don't want to get all mushy or anything, but I just feel like crying, to know now where my ggggrandfather is, and am so touched to think that it might actually be possible one day to lay a wreath on his grave. Thanks from the bottom of my heart. And please keep me in mind if you need any American research done. It would be my honor to help you in any way. 2. I did notice that. One of their daughters, I believe, married one of the sons. I'm not sure how/if the Archer that Sarah married in 1859 was related to them, but I'm likely thinking they were. If I only had my other hard drive, doggone it, I could tell you. Again, thanks for your lovely and kind help.
