Dear list members, We recently found in some old family files a very damaged birth certificate, apparently an original. It's probably that of my my great grand mother of whom we know almost nothing, hence my interest. At the top is has hand written "Witley" and the address of the father is given as Lawn Cottage, Chiddingford. At the bottom we have the following ".. 68 in the Birth Register Book No. 16 for the .... Witness my Hand this 27th day of ...." Where the 68, 16 and 27 are all hand-written, The name and maiden surname of the mother are given, but thar's about all (e.g., no name of father) I have tried looking up in FreeBMD, familysearch and the various censuses that cover a likely period but there's nothing that matches. Is there any chance of following up on this scanty information? Any ideas of what the next step I could take could be be. Many thanks Scott
