try putting in rootsweb.com and have a look at some of the comments! I don't think we should be using this email group:-)I've put in a few web addresses and the ratings seem to correlate to the popularity of the site rather than anything else. Provided you have good security software on your pc you shouldn't have problems with any site. cheers, Anne > Date: Wed, 31 Aug 2011 20:01:42 +0100 > From: [email protected] > To: [email protected] > Subject: Re: [SRY] SRY etc. Newpaper clippings > > Fionnghal wrote: > > hi Nivard, I'd like to think it is a safe site, as i, like many researchers, love news clip web pages, however, i tried the site www.newspaperdetectives.co.uk/ again and once again the screen filled with a warning. i then googled 'newspaperdetectives' and up came three returns, all with WOT's traffic light warnings > > > > I then looked the page up on WOT's website and came up with their grading. Though doing well in the trusworthy department, it seems it has flagged up red on vendor reliability. I'm not sure why that is. Some folk must have felt they'd got their fingers burnt and downmarked it. I have to say I've found WOT very reliable however, I appreciate that maybe for some reason a site could have been graded wrongly. Hi Anne I did as you suggested, then read the comments - the newest one appears to be over two years old. Technology is racing along at such a fast pace, it wouldn't surprise me if those comments don't apply today. If all users were responsible and heeded the information in your final sentence there should not be any problem with a virus or other 'nasty' happening! As I have used this site for many stories of my Waterer family, and have never had any problems with it. Stories I would never had been able to find as I am in Canada ----- Original Message ----- From: Anne Capewell <[email protected]> Date: Wednesday, August 31, 2011 1:36 pm Subject: Re: [SRY] SRY etc. Newpaper clippings To: [email protected] > > try putting in rootsweb.com and have a look at some of the > comments! We mustn't use the mailing list. (smile). The people who made the silly comments don't know anything abut rootsweb. I put in Ancestry and findmypast. I don't think their results are accurate. My nephew looks after the security programmes. I am learning slowly though. Jean Hunter Kent
