Hi Alan Remembering that what we see is a transcript in itself The enumerator transcribed the household schedule and if he had not heard of a place and could not read it well, he may have had a best stab at it How about Ashurst Sussex (or he sneezed <g>) Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) >I am seeking help from someone with access to the 1851 census. The entry for John Young, age 78, >living in Newdigate, Surrey (HO 107/1598 folio 130) shows the place of birth to be Hishut, Sussex >or something similar. Is it Hishut or am I and the Ancestry transcribers misreading it? If it is >Hishut I can find no such place. There is a Heyshott in Sussex. Maybe it is or was pronounced >Hiss-hut? Any advice / comments gratefully received ! > Alan Mills
