Dear Kerry The situation in Surrey is, I'm afraid horribly complicated. Richmond and Egham are two quite widely separated areas, and it is unlikely that someone born in one would be baptised in the other. Egham has always been in the administrative county of Surrey, but for some registration purposes it was linked with parishes in the county of Berkshire (to which it is next). Richmond was in the administrative county of Surrey until 1965 when with a number of other places it formed the London Borough of Richmond which was incorporated into "Greater London". I would advise you to look at a map of Surrey to see the various links between these places, there are dozens freely available on the Internet. Also if you look at the West Surrey FHS's website you will see they have umpteen inexpensive publications which attempt to deal with the hows and wherefores of Surrey research in great detail.
