    1. [SRY] Russell Family Lambeth
    2. Pauline Taylor
    3. Hello everyone, Could anyone help me to find the possible deaths and burials of my great grandfather's brother John William Russell born 24 December 1827 and baptised 20 January 1828 at St John Horselydown and his sister Clarissa Elizabeth Russell born 25 July 1831 and baptised 14 August 1831 also at St John Horselydown. Neither of these children appear in the Census of 1841 when their mother Elizabeth Russell 36 greengrocer born Surrey, Sarah Russell 17 trotter dresser born Surrey, Benjamin Russell 15 shipwright born Surrey William Russell 11 born Surrey and Samuel Russell 2 born Surrey were all recorded as living in Bermondsey Street, Leather Market. There is no sign at all of John William, and it seems quite likely that he had died as the next child was also William, and the only remote possibility for Clarissa Elizabeth that I can find of the right age is Elizabeth C Russell aged 9 living London born London. She does not seem a very likely candidate as Elizabeth is a very common name but if anyone could tell me who she was living with that might help to eliminate her from my enquiries!! Any suggestions or help would be much appreciated. I have found a Clarissa Russell in 1881 aged 47 dressmaker visitor Kent born Lambeth Surrey, and again in 1901 and 1911 but I believe this to be the daughter of Hillier Russell. I have a copy of her death certificate which describes her as 98, Spinster, Dressmaker of 15 Stellman Street, North Hackney, daughter of Hillier Russell Wine Agent (Deceased). This Clarissa was baptised 20 Jul 1831 at Lambeth St Mary. All very confusing! I have also eliminated Clarissa Elizabeth Russell who married George Smyth Windham Jun 1/4 1865 at Westminster, she died Mar 1/4 1908 in the Isle of Wight aged 70. Pauline Taylor, Colchester. 3. Can any of the experts help me in my search, as I have exhausted all the avenues I know Henry James HANCOCK born 29th August 1841 Box Wiltshire married Ann GRIFFITHS (nee SMITH) on 9th July 1898 at St Barnabas church Kennington. They were widower and widow respectively. I can find them on the 1911 Census at 42 Victoria Road NW London. On the 1901 Census I can find no trace. There is a Henry HANCOCK born 1843 in Box, but he has different parents, and is not my Henry. I have traced Henry on the 1861 Census for Bradford Wiltshire, living with a wife Mary born Broughton Wiltshire and son Albert age 5m. In 1871 there is no trace of either In 1881 he is in Bow London with a wife Sarah born Graves End and 5 children, Alice, Arthur, Herbert, Albert, Olive. In the 1891 Census for Fulham London I find a Henry born 1849 Bristol Gloucestershire with wife Florence born 1861 Southall Middlesex and 3 of the children from 1881, Arthur, Albert, Olive. Their ages and place of birth match, and tie in with the GRO indexes from Freebmd I can find no verifiable marriages for any of the wives except Ann GRIFFITHS I have tried the online electoral rolls with no verifiable success except for Henry and Ann in 1920 at Weedington Street London I have been through Ancestry and Findmypast to get the originals, and tried most of the online suppliers of Census information as well as Familysearch, using their free indexes to no avail Many thanks

    3. Dear Yvonne, Thanks for the reminder of how much we owe to all these men who gave their lives in that awful conflict of World War 1. I would like to remember Abraham Tearoe who had a truly tragic life. Born 07 August 1886 at 4 Berrimans Lane Norwood as one of four children born to Abraham Tearoe and Sarah Shread not much is known about his early life but he was admitted to Barnardos on 31 May 1900 from St Giles. From there he was sent to Canada to a life of virtual slavery. Later, after initially being rejected, he was accepted by the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force in December 1917. He was sent to France where his death is recorded in War Diaries ' DENAIN 27 Rue de Villiers 1.11.18 I other rank killed in action Sapper Teroe'. My son and I discovered where Abraham is buried in France and recently made a pilgrimage to visit his grave. Standing by his graveside in a beautiful small cemetery is something I shall never forget. He was the only Canadian in that cemetery, and it is almost certain that we are the only blood relatives of his ever to visit the grave. It brought tears to the eyes of both of us. Thank you Abraham for your sacrifice. 3. Hi again The criminal record presumably has the birthplace as given by the criminal If that person had lived from an early age in that location they may believe that was their birthplace (or wanted others to believe it was) Given the scarcity of the name I would seriously consider the one in Twickenham and see if you can find anything else on that man Hannah may be the daughter of Joseph and Hannah Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 11/11/2012 09:54, Chalk wrote: > Birth Source from criminal record. > > > Hi Nigel > > The only one I can find happens to be in the right time frame and > roughly in the area (13 miles from Southwark, what is the source of the > Southwark birthplace?) > > London, England, Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1538-1812 about > Zachariah Chalk > Name: Zachariah Chalk > Baptism Date: 14 Jun 1812
