    1. [SRY] Christmas Wish : Which PAGE family?
    2. rummins
    3. Dear Listers, Does anybody there know about the early life of a Mary Ann Page? Can somebody help me with this Christmas wish list? On the 2nd of August 1809 Mary Ann PAGE married John Rummin(g)s at St Giles, Camberwell. Sadly this was prior to the inclusion of the names of fathers in the church registers so we do not know the Christian name of Mary Ann Page's father. Without that there is no connection back to an earlier family generation. Both Mary Ann and John were shown as "of full age" and "of this parish" at the time of their marriage. The only clue we have in 1809 is that a Martha Page was one of the witness to that event. But was she a sister or a mother? The other witness was a William Wallman - again we do not know his relationship to either of the couple. Another clue came from the 1841 census where both parties are shown as not being born in the county of Surrey and born in or around 1784. Names of this couple's known children are Isaac, Ann, Mary, William, John Thomas, Henry and Martha Rummin(g)s-with all variations being used over the years between 1810 and 1825. I am confident Mary Ann died in November 1850 at 5 Oak Cottages, Pomeroy St Deptford prior to the 1851 census which would given us a birthplace for this lady. Widower John Rummins, manservant and coachman, is apparently nowhere to be seen on the 1851 census and he then died in 1860, again missing out on giving a vital a clue to his birthplace in the census of 1861! We do not know the origins of either of the couple after many years of searching for matching records pre 1809. The Page surname without a father's name has proved too plentiful without further clues. So, has anybody misplaced a likely lady named Mary Ann Page? If so we would be delighted to hear from you! Christmas Greetings, Regards Elizabeth Date: 12/06/09 03:41:00

    1. [SRY] Fowler BEAN m. Elizabeth BROWNE - Camberwell, Surrey, ENG
    2. Vincent E. Summers
    3. Hi! I've been tracing back some lines from India, and the oldest ancestor I am finding so far is Apothecary Fowler BEAN (he declared bankruptcy and is probably most famous for that!), who is married to Elizabeth BROWNE. Now I found out that Fowler was a partner before 1787 to one Benjamin BROWNE - however that man was deceased by that year. It makes sense to me that Fowler had married his daughter... Does anyone have anything on these lines? I would like to know everything possible, except about Fowler's bankruptcy! Thanks... Vince Summers

    1. [SRY] Still looking for Brown and Allsop
    2. Pat Marshall
    3. My Christmas wish has been the same for many years now and that is too find a marriage for my gg grandparents Joseph BROWN and Caroline ALLSOP so that I can find their parents names and go further back with my tree. I have a birth certificate for my g grandmother ( their eldest daughter ) Caroline Alice BROWN dated July 10 , 1870. She was born in Union Workhouse , Guildford to Caroline BROWN and no father listed. The next sighting is the 1871 census where I find Joseph age 23 , born Yorkshire, Caroline age 21 born London ,Middlesex and baby Alice age 9 months born Guildford, living as lodgers at the Old Kings Head Inn in Dorking , Surrey . In 1881 they are living in Westcott , Surrey and Joseph's birthplace is Lambeth ,Surrey age 27 and Caroline gives hers as Walworth , Surrey age 26. In 1891 (age 45 ) and 1901 (age 54 ) Joseph's birthplace is listed as Bradford , Yorkshire and Caroline in 1891 (age 43 ) has London , Walworth and in 1901 (age 50 ) London , Borough . Caroline and Joseph lived the rest of their lives in Westcott and had several more children , including Joseph ,Elizabeth ,Ann , Henry , Fanny ,William , George and James. It was from the birth registrations of some of these later children that I learned that Caroline's maiden name was ALLSOP. Strangely enough they were able to keep all their children's ages correct on various census but not their own ages. I would love to find a marriage for them or a baptism for Caroline because there are too many Joseph BROWNs to order certs without a fathers name. I am open to any and all suggestions the great people on this list may offer . Pat Marshall Ontario , Canada Happy Holidays

    3. Dear Bobbie. Just to mention that Camberwell is in Surrey, but Romford is in the County of Essex. According to my records my great grandparents Temperance Jane (Nottle) and James Frederick Kirrage had a total 7 children (5 daughters and 2 sons) born between 1880 and 1895 in the Camberwell and Romford area of Surrey.

    3. Well, I would hate to miss out on joining the Christmas wish list...you never know if Santa's checking in. I would love to learn more about and meet descendants of Alfred J. Brown (b. ??) and Lily Caroline E. Clifton (b. 1910), marriage recorded at Camberwell, June 1935 and with children Veronica, Valerie and Geoffrey (each likely born somewhere between 1933 and 1940). I believe Alf worked at the South Metropolitan Gas Company and, but can't assume that is accurate. Already checked with them for records. Michael Clifton Canada

    3. Ernest Wade JEWETT, Assistant Mint Master at Calcutta was born in India in 1861. In 1916 he travelled to England with his wife, Lilian Violet and children Rodney Wade JEWETT and daughter, Miss E D JEWETT. The JEWETT family then lived at 27, Dingwall Road, Croydon. Ernest died in 1917. His wife lived until 1955. His son did army service in WWI and records describe him at that time as a university student. I know of their family background in India but have no more information about their lives in England. Does anyone know anything of this family? David

    1. [SRY] CHRISTMAS WISH aka WHO WOULD YOU INVITE TO DINNER?
    2. Bob
    3. For several years I have been responding to this invitation to post with a request for a connection between the WICKS, BRASIER and RUSSELL families. Santa came early this year and the connection is no made! Thanks, Santa and Surrey listers! My invitation to dinner (or wish) this year is for James WICKS who died at 69 as a Groom and with asthma in Croydon 21 March, 1839. He wed Mary CHITTY (CHITLEY) in Streatham 25 August, 1805. The only known child was Mary christened in Croydon 29 August, 1817. Other possible children are James William of 1807 and Sarah of 1803, both in Croydon. I would probably deliver my invitation to Crowhurst as this seems the likely place of birth in 1770 but there are quite a number of James WICKS christened in Surrey between 1765 and 1775, as listed in the IGI. If anyone comes across this fellow, tell him that a seat at the table is being held for him. And have a Happy Holiday Season! Bob

    3. I would like to find, for my Christmas wish, the husband of Indiana Eleanor Crouch born in Lambeth in 1819, seemingly had two children, possibly one, out of wedlock and then married a ????? Spademan. Indiana's name has changed between the 1841 and 1861 census, cannot find her on the 1851 census and one of her children, the other died, is now called Emily Spademan, although they have spelt it Spedman. I cannot find a marriage for this couple and know the name is right as a living relative remembers a nanny Spadman. Thanks in advance, Trevena

    1. [SRY] My Christmas Wish - Elizabeth (Boeve) Hinton
    2. Margie Hinton
    3. My Christmas Wish would be to find records proving Elizabeth Boeve was the daughter of James and (?) Boeve and her marriage to Sir (Captain) William Hinton. Without these two confirming records I cannot prove that this couple were or even might have been my ancestors. That is a big difference! If I could be a time traveler, I would love to bring them to California and have them sitting at my Christmas Dinner table and be able to keep them as my guests for a day or so. I would be able to ask them the many questions I have waiting for information I cannot locate. I have over 300 research pages written about James Boeve who married three times and I have historical data which states that Elizabeth was his daughter, but camnot locate any records showing her being born to James Boeve and any of his wives though she was probably a child with his first wife. Hmmm. James Boeve (Boevey and died in Cheam and was buried on 13 January 1695 - his monumental stone is in Lumley Chapel. Sometimes too much information clouds the most vital piece of data needed - maybe I can't see the forest for the trees? Margie Hinton in California

    3. Hi Stephen Victor Oddy of Hillarys, WA and other COE researchers. Your COE name rings a bell with me. My great-great-great-grandmother was Mary COE born around 1782 place still not confirmed. Mary married William WILKINS. who was baptised 26 Sep 1779 at Spalding, Lincs, on 14 Oct 1802, place still not confirmed. Their daughter Mahala WILKINS was baptised 3 Mar 1816, in Long Sutton, Lincs. Mahala married James MORRISS, my great-great-grandparents, and they emigrated to South Australia in 1855, where I was born. I lived in WA for 30 years, and remember Hillarys as a new northern beach suburb of Perth. I suspect the COE name to have had Huguenot origins and was probably anglicised from DE CAUX. I have been looking for Mary COE's origins for many years. Could she have come then from Newark, Nottinghamshire? shalom Chris Christopher Ridings from Ryde, NSW cnridings@exemail.com.au http://cnridings.blogspot.com > > From: "Stephen Victor Oddy"
