    3. Hi Janet A quick perusal of the British history online lists the manors of Ewhurst - and summerfield is not there, however as others have noted Somersbury is....... http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=42937&strquery=manors%20+%20ewhurst#s3 perhaps typing in "Somersbury manor" on google earth might afford a picture that I cannot seem to find online and you may be able to compare with the photo. Child's Name: James Son of Born 14 Jany 1819. Parent's Names:James & Charlotte Quinton. Abode: Lemon St. Quality, Trade or Profession: Labourer. By whom ceremony was performed: J Horton. The son James put on 2 Censuses (1851, 1861) that he was Born at Kew? I have not been able to Identify the Marriage of the parents or their Deaths (Let alone the Births) It would be great to find their Marriage and/or one or both Births. Not knowing Charlotte's Maiden name, without the Marriage of course Her Birth is most Unlikely.

Can't readily find anything on Summerfield in Ewehurst or Cranleigh which seems strange if it was extant in the past hundred or so years. Michael's suggestions are good. Just a thought though - one of the old Manors of Ewhurst was Summersbury (Somerbury). Could the name have been misquoted? 3. If you can not find this on a map, ask the Estate Agents. If you google Yell.com and sort for Estate Agents in Cranleigh you should find several contacts. There is no Estate Agent in Ewhurst. The alternative would be Guildford. The other source of information in this season of goodwill might be Ewhurst Parish Council - another google Good luck Michael Allbrook -----Original Message----- From: eng-surrey-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:eng-surrey-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of ji.kelsey@xtra.co.nz Sent: 15 December 2009 08:58 To: eng-surrey@rootsweb.com Subject: [SRY] SUMMERFIELD, EWHURST Hi everyone, I have a photo of my husband's grandfather, ALAN KELSEY, who was a carpenter, outside a large old Elizabethan style house, with two of his workmates (Alan is holding his saw in one hand). 3. Thanks to a kind member of the Surrey list I now have the father's name for my Great Aunt ALICE ILETT LOVETT - 1870-1947. She was illegitimte as was my Grandfather her brother WILLIAM CHARLES LOVETT 1873-1954. On her baptism entry at St Mary's Lambeth the father is entered as EDMUND ILETT and there was such a person aged 22 living in the area. ALICE ILETT LOVETT married GEORGE BEDFORD from Stukely Beds in 1889 and Alice's Daughter Alice born 1895 married a JACKSON. I would so like to follow this branch of my family but have never yet been in contact with any descendents. They all lived in Battersea/Lambeth/Kennington/Wandsworth/Nine Elms. Any contact with these names from this area and these dates would be much appreciated. Since I now have a name on a baptism record and the ILETT surname was given to Alice as a middle name [it appears again on her death certificate in 1947], is there any way that I could follow up officially on this? Would there have been a charge on EDMUND ILETT for support of the child for example. All help very gratefully received Best wishes Carole  Carole Watts carole_watts@talk21.co.uk
