    1. [SRY] Inquest on Wm. QUARTERMAN ( 1859 )
    2. >From The Era ( London, England ), Sunday, February 27, 1859; Issue 1066. SUDDEN DEATH OF A TRADESMAN IN A POLICE SATION. On Wednesday afternoon an inquest was held at the St. George's Workhouse, Mint-street, Borough, by Mr. Sargeant PAYNE, to inquire as to the cause of death of Mr. William QUARTERMAN, a corn chandler, of Hounslow, and London-road, Southwark. Matthew DELL said: On Monday afternoon about half-past one, he was proceeding along Newington-causeway, when his attention was attracted to the deceased staggering towards a lamp-post. He went towards him, and then perceived blood oozing from his mouth, and he then fell backwards on the pavement. Witness an another man were about to take deceased to the nearest surgeon's, but were prevented by a policeman, who ordered them to take him ( the deceased ) to the station-house. Deceased was not dead when they got him to the police-station, but he died shortly after. The coroner summed up the whole of the evidence, and the jury returned a verdict of Natural death, but thought it was great neglect on the part of the policeman not to have taken him to the nearest surgeon's.

    1. [SRY] GIBBON / GIBBINS Elizabeth / Betty Bapt. Send And Riply 1773 ? Have I Got The Right One ?
    2. Chris Wake
    3. Hi, I'm just after a second opinion actually as I don't feel 100% confident I've got the right link for my great(x4) grandmother Elizabeth GIBBON. Elizabeth GIBBON married James SIMMONDS (my great(x4) grandfather) on 25th June 1796 - source Surrey Marriage Index. This I'm happy is correct. She died, aged 52, in 1825 in West Horsley. My next step back is obviously to find the birth/baptism of Elizabeth GIBBON. Now, looking in the Send And Ripley PR's there is a Betty GIBBINS baptised on 19th Nov 1775 to Richard and Jane GIBBIN. I believe, but am not 100% convinced, she is mine. The reason for my doubts is because when I search the IGI for the baptism of an Elizabeth GIBBON, there are 2 other options in the Surrey area that have a better fit in terms of name matching. Those being :- Elizabeth GIBBONS bapt. 5th Mar 1774 in Egham, Surrey to Francis and Esther GIBBONS. - Better fit for Christian name and birth year (using her DOD). Eliz GIBBONS bapt. 2nd Jun 1775 in Southwark, Surrey to William and Eliz GIBBONS. - Better fit for Christian name. The main link to "my" Betty is the fact she was baptized in Send And Ripley. Would be grateful for any views of how I should proceed with this. Thinking about it, perhaps I should try and trace the ones that are not mine ? Many thanks Chris

Hi Vince As (with the help of kind folk here) you've now established a location in Middlesex, and would like to pursue it, this is no longer Surrey research. Marylebone and Pancras are both in Middlesex so you might consider joining the Middlesex List where there is lots of knowledge, and folk there who be able to help you further. The Middlesex List home page is here: http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/intl/ENG/Middlesex_County_UK.html Things do tend to go a little quiet on most of the Lists over the Christmas week, so if there isnt't an immediate response, don't despair but have another go a little later on. I might have another search > today. Just because data was available on FHOL, it doesn't automatically follow that it will still be available on FMP. The data sets on FHOL were contributed either by organisations (eg FHSs) or by private individuals. When FHOL announced closure, the contributors each had a choice whether or not to transfer their data to the new provider, or not. Many did, some didn't, and some took their data elsewhere. Presumably we are talking about Surrey here? Which parish or place in Surrey 1831 is being sought? As has already been said, only a minority of pre 1841 heads of households actually survive. So there is no 'global' search possible. One needs to pinpoint a specific place in Surrey and then determine whether or not there are any surviving records. Ann Surrey List Admin

    3. David, Just a quick and HUGE thank you for those superb maps. I have been helped considerably by them. Also, the features - magnification, and ease of navigation - are very well thought out. The on-line images do, I believe, convey the vibrant colours of the originals. With Season's Greetings to one and all. Cross's London Guide 1851 displayed on the MAPCO website has been revised: Cross's London Guide 1851 http://london1851.com The thumbnail map and map images have been reworked to take full advantage of the wider format MAPCO website design. The 'click to enlarge' feature has been improved to give better access to very high quality enlarged images of each map section. This beautiful hand coloured map of London is printed on silk, and shows the site of the Great Exhibition of 1851 in Hyde Park. Of course 1851 was a significant census year, making this a map of particular interest to historians and genealogists. Please note that this map now has its own domain name, which is quite easy to remember: london1851.com However, the map is still part of the MAPCO collection and the MAPCO : Map And Plan Collection Online website. I hope that you find the enlarged images a great improvement. Enjoy this fascinating map! Look out for more MAPCO Revised maps in coming months. Seasons greetings to you all. Thank you for your support of the MAPCO project throughout the year. May you all have a safe and happy Christmas and New Year. I will be back with many more MAPCO improvements and updates in 2010. 3. Hi Nivard When you can't remember something it very often comes to you on awakening, and that's what happened this morning. I remembered that the smattering of 1831 census data on FHOL was taken over by findmypast. I tried ages ago to find some 1831 census data on FindMyPast with no luck. I wondered then what they had done with it. I might have another search today. Thanks for the information below Nivard. 3. Hmm..? I don't quite understand your statement > The other (1857) had too many other entries with similar spellings, > making me think it was an actual name. Have you looked at GRO index page with the name on? there is only one name like it on the page and it looks to me like CERONIO , there is certainly what looks like a dot over the i second last letter The one you mentioned of a Mary CERVEN is clearly Mary CERVEN on the page so not sure how you could make CERONIO out of that ? Maybe I am missing something I still maintain the 1857 entry is most likely yours, she had a connection to Pancras as she lived there in 1841, in 1851 could she be staying at Herne Bay for her health perhaps but still have a house in Pancras Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Good Day, Nivard... > > You asked, > > "You say you checked the other reference? do you mean you looked at > the GRO index page for the death in 1857? and you don't think its > yours?" > > After I saw how you used the asterisk, I played some more with the > site and think this is the most likely: > > Deaths Jun 1859 > Surname Given Name District Volume Page > CERVEN Mary Greenwich 1d 357

    1. [SRY] KELSEY: CRANLEIGH
    2. Hi everyone, Does SKS have access to Cranleigh Parish Records beyond 1875 which seems to be where the IGI entries stop. I would like to find out the parents of MARY LOUISA KELSEY whose birth was registered in the December qtr. of 1875. According to all the census entries she was born in Cranleigh. She seems to have lived with her grandparents GEORGE and MARY ANN KELSEY in Cranleigh in 1881 and 1891 and was working as a cook in Hampstead in 1901, but I haven't been able to find out which of George and Mary Ann's children was her mother or father. TIA Regards Janet, Auckland, NZ
