    2. Caroline Bradford
    3. Hi Mo There is a death for a Robert William THORNHILL in Camberwell in Q3 1860, which may explain why he cannot be found in 1861. I cannot find any trace of Thomas or Marian, but then nor can I find a marriage for her and Robert - have you got Thomas's birth certificate? It is possible that she and Robert never married and that she either reverted to her maiden name or married someone else under it. I think I have located Thomas's marriage in 1869 to Caroline CLARK - I can send you the image if you need it. In 1861, little Rosina (now spelt Roseanna) is with another uncle - William Bradshaw - in Great Driffield, Yorkshire. 1. [SRY] Caterham Asylum New Burial Ground
    2. Dear Listers Some months ago I asked if anyone had any information to share about the burial ground that served Caterham Asylum/St. Lawrence's Hospital between 1914 and 1964. I attach the original message here. "Chaldon Parish Community Group is planning some restoration of the old burial ground situated west of the site of St Lawrence's Hospital.? This was the Hospital's second burial site, opened in 1914 but no longer used after 1964.? It is accessible by footpath only and has been sadly neglected over the past decade, become overgrown with brambles and scrub and used as a dumping ground.? Potentially it is a beautiful site and the remains of some gravestones can still be seen. I have noticed in the archive for this list that there was some correspondence some years ago.??I am?keen to hear from anyone who remembers this burial ground or has relations or aquaintances who were buried there.? It would be particularly interesting to find some photographs. Please get in touch if you have any knowledge of the site - first hand or anecdotal." We have started some restoration of the site with the help of the Downlands Conservation Trust. Several memorials have been uncovered and I have now a list of all names to be seen at the Burial Ground. The surnames are: Howcroft, (Cleghorn), Udy, Houghton, Hazell, Wise, Hale, Millward, Barnes, Hill, Nash. If you have a personal interest in any of these names I can give you a bit more information with a photo of the memorial stone. Information varies considerably. Liz

    3. My Wheeler family was based in Camberwell in 1847 when Thomas Wheeler was born. His father Thomas may have been born in Kent; his mother Susannah or Susanne Rolls or Rolls was from Farnborough Kent. Thomas b1847 had at least five siblings as there was a sizeable gap I suspect more or a previous marriage John about 1843 Mary 1852 George 1854 James 1856 Susannah 1860 No one called Eliizabeth though. I have not been working on this branch for over a year so it is possible that more sources may be available now. 2. Caroline Bradford
    3. Hi Barbara Sebina's birth (not baptism) was registered in the fourth quarter of 1845 in the Godstone RD as "Sabina Mary COWDRY". Using the reference from FreeBMD you can purchase her birth certificate directly from www.gro.gov.uk (do not be lured into buying it any other way - it will cost a lot more and take a lot longer). The family is quite easy to identify from the census, though in 1851 the entry contains some errors (possibly through the enumerator misreading the original form) and William's wife appears as "Rebecca" and Sebina/Sabina as "Letitta". From later censuses and a likely marriage, William's wife (and presumably Sebina's mother) was Ulrica Eleanora (nee CLAYTON). I can send you the image of this marriage if you like. Baptisms may well be hard to find for this family, as William appears to have been, or at least become, a Baptist minister and Baptists do not practice infant baptism. But civil birth registration certificates provide better information than most baptism registers anyway. You may find it worthwhile to contact the Baptist Historical Society (www.baptisthistory.org.uk) for information about William. Hope this helps Caroline > > > > I am searching for the birth/baptism of my 3xgreat grandmother, SEBINA > COWDRY at Godstone, Surrey in 1845. > > I have found the baptism entry on the free BDM index on Ancestry.com. > > Her father was WILLIAM COWDRY,( possibly born Horne, Surrey.) > > > > Thank you for any information, > > > > Barbara > > > > > > > > *************************************** > Wishing all Surrey Listers a peaceful Christmas and a bright New Year. > > Send your List messages using **PLAIN TEXT** and always **TRIM AWAY** > superfluous old messages in replies. > List Admin can be contacted at: Eng-Surrey-admin@rootsweb.com. > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to ENG-SURREY- > request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in > the subject and the body of the message

    3. Happy New Year everyone!!!! I am trying to find any details about Edwin LAWRENCE who is believed to have been born in London in about 1840 please? He went to Chile and became a member of Valparaiso and Concepcion Masonic Lodges . At the same time, my relative, William LAWRENCE belonged to the same lodges. Both were involved in similar businesses in Chile and I am beginning to think Edwin was a son to William, perhaps born before his marriage to Eleanor HASKEW in Lambeth in 1845. Edwin married Caroline STRANGE near Concepcion in 1870. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Jan in sunny Queensland
