Mary definitely hadn't remarried by 1851 by which time her son was in London and later Essex, where he stayed the rest of his life. The husband Charles died in Farnham where he is buried in the churchyard. Hammersmith is not really so far straight up the road from Farnham. Having lived near Farnham myself, as a teenager I used to go up to Hammersmith Palais just for a Saturday night out. I've found quite a few Farnham folk up in that neck of the woods in early to mid 1800s and one of mine from Godalming has been found up in Islington in the mid 1700s. People seem to have travelled quite extensively despite the very different transport (or lack of). I think this is very often the reason that lines of research come to an abrupt halt in small villages and towns - sometimes the wanderer comes back again later, and sometimes not. Ann

    1. [SRY] Surrey Burials - Look up please PROSSER and HEAPHY
    2. Diane Johansen
    3. Ian - thank you so much for your kind offer. I wonder whether you may have any burial information on: Joseph Bowen PROSSER, who died in Pimlico, on 22nd October 1862 aged 45. Joseph had moved to London from Herefordshire to work as a missionary for the London City Mission. Also I would be delighted to know if you have burial information for Thomas [Frank] HEAPHY (watercolour artist) and his wife Eliza HEAPHY (b. BRADSTREET). Thomas died on 7th August 1873 aged 60, at 46 Sussex Street, Pimlico and Eliza died at 47 Crookham Road, Fulham, on 25th February 1895 aged 76. I know that a lot of burials took place at Brookwood at that time. Eliza was sister to my g.g.grandmother, Emma BRADSTREET, of Charsfield, Suffolk. Thank you again Diane J.

    3. Hello Philp Thank you for reply. Yes, with hindsight I realise I should have added a little bit more info but I tried to keep it as brief and straightforward as possible. Yes, I know all about her baptism (surname Batchelour), and have researched her ancestry back to the year dot - well almost!! She married in the 1830s to Charles Champion and I have a copy of the marriage entry from the parish register in Hammersmith. Mary Anne had only one child who reached adulthood, and I have his marriage, death, and his only daughter, right up to 1900s. It is just Mary Ann herself that I haven't been able to "kill off". She could have remarried, or she could have died still with surname Champion. There is one hopeful death registration in the Farnham RD as follows: Deaths Mar 1892 Champion Mary 77 Farnham 2a 103 so I will now be following that one up as it's a near match. I just wondered if anyone here might by chance spot something I've missed in censuses, or even maybe know more of the Champions of Farnham and the nearby Hampshire parishes. With thanks Ann ----- Original Message ----- From: "Philip Maddocks" <listenat@talktalk.net> > Ann > Is that all you know about her? do you know her birth name? > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Ann Sargeant" <ann.sargeant@ntlworld.com> >> .......One of my 'loose ends' is a Mary Ann born Farnham in 1814/15. >> >> The last conclusive sighting of her is in 1851 still in Farnham, >> married name Mary A CHAMPION (widow). >> >> 1861 - not found (but quite a lot of Farnham is known to be missing). >> >> 1871 - There's a tempting entry Mary A Champion that just might be her >> in >> the WATERER household at Bagshot (Waterers being the plant nurserymen). >> >> 1881 and thereafter - nothing positive >> >> I've been right through the Probate Calendars and haven't found any >> likely >> entry, which would have been ideal as it could have identified a place of >> death or executor. >> >> I can't buy every marriage and death certificate for a Mary or Mary >> Ann(e) >> Champion so will be grateful for anything that links with this GGG Aunt.

    2. Ann Sargeant
    3. With the start of a new year I have decided it's high time to try to tidy up some of my loose ends that have been sitting unattended for far too long. One of my 'loose ends' is a Mary Ann born Farnham in 1814/15. The last conclusive sighting of her is in 1851 still in Farnham, married name Mary A CHAMPION (widow). 1861 - not found (but quite a lot of Farnham is known to be missing). 1871 - There's a tempting entry Mary A Champion that just might be her in the WATERER household at Bagshot (Waterers being the plant nurserymen). 1881 and thereafter - nothing positive I've been right through the Probate Calendars and haven't found any likely entry, which would have been ideal as it could have identified a place of death or executor. I can't buy every marriage and death certificate for a Mary or Mary Ann(e) Champion so will be grateful for anything that links with this GGG Aunt. This is a real long shot - with no real expectation of any luck!! But if anyone should spot her - or have connections to her via the Champion family in and around Farnham - it would make my day/month/year. Ann
