Hi all I hope someone can help me find my grandfathers death. He is George Robert Parker who was born in 1867. I think he died at the home of his son Bertram at 31 Lancing Road, Croydon. Surrey as that is what I have been told. I have check FreeBMD deaths from 1867 until 1940's but nothing shows up. I have been told by my cousin that she thinks he was alive when she was a child and she was born in 1953. I tried both George, Robert, & George Robert but nothing. He married Rose Hannah ( Roseanna ) Harper or Gomm ( she married as a Harper but was born a Gomm ) on the 16th May 1887. I hope someone can help me as I am hoping to rescue the grave from Croydon Cemetery who have put a temporary hold on 2 Parker graves that are due to be reclaimed so I can give them the details to see if one of them is my grandfather. Colin.
Dear Listers, Can anybody advise me if names in the registers, or indexes, for the above cemeteries are available on line? If not, are the details still available, upon written request, from the cemetery if the dates of death of individuals are known? Many thanks for any assistance regarding this query, Elizabeth 1

Elizabeth, The data is not generally online, though you will find a handful of Camberwell burial records at www.findagrave.com. The burial and grave registers for both Camberwell Old and New are held at Camberwell New Cemetery in Brenchley Gardens. You can get a search done, but you will need to supply the exact date of death from the death certificate, not just the quarter, and there will be a charge to pay. Contact [email protected] The other option would be to have someone visit Camberwell New in person, where the registers can be searched free of charge. Elizabeth, I cannot help you directly on this, but I suggest you explore the London Borough of Southwark's web-site for cemetery records. I tired Deceased online, but Southwark hasn't contributed to the site yet. This link provides the latest as to which records are on the site: https://www.deceasedonline.com/servlet/GSDOSearch > You may have to modify the link slightly, by going to Deceased online, and then navigate to FAQs for the list of contributors. > ------------------------------ > > Message: 7 > Date: Wed, 6 Jul 2011 13:09:06 +0800 > From: "rummins" <[email protected]> > Subject: [SRY] Registers for Camberwell Old & New Cemeteries > To: <[email protected]> > Message-ID: <[email protected]> > Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" > > Dear Listers, > > Can anybody advise me if names in the registers, or indexes, for the above > cemeteries are available on line? > If not, are the details still available, upon written request, from the > cemetery if the dates of death of individuals are known? > > Many thanks for any assistance regarding this query, > Elizabeth > -------------------------------------------- Richard Brown Bromley, Kent U.K. Member of: - E. RG4 is searchable on the IGI. They indexed this some years ago. If it's there it's "real". Ancestry do not have these non-conformist registers. The images and an index are available on S&N "The Genealogist" website - go to the BMD Registers section. You'll need to pay per view and to search. Hi, John I don't know if this is a possible lead, or if I am barking up wrong tree, but I was searching thru the up-dated Family Search web-site when I found this:- LAZARUS PAVIE birth 07 April 1774, Holborn. Parents Charles and Mary - Non-Conformist Record Indexes RG4 - 8 The date is a bit adrift but????? could it be? But we haven't got any other "Charles's in the family as I recall. I have just Googled "Lazarus Pavey" and got this:- Lazarus Pavey Born 7th. April 1774 Holborn Middx, spouse Mary Boucher, married 21st. Feb. 1801 Camden, death 25th. Aug. 1844 Kingston (Non-Conformist Register) Which is all correct. I don't subscribe to Ancestry at the moment, but when I typed "Lazarus Pavey "into their search box and clicked various registers to try and find confirmation, no Lazarus came up. Do you think the Googled bit was a leap of faith by someone/something? Somewhat confused, Daphne

I would love to look at the Chessington parish records but I am now in the U.S. and the records are on neither ancestry nor LDS and I haven't been to the local LDS library to get a copy for some time. A second cousin of mine on the other side of the family kindly looked for the marriage of Christopher in 1763 and gave me the details (no extra info really) but she said the records were the most difficult to read that she had known, so I am wondering if they are in a reasonable state to get any information from them. The other possibility is of course that he came from Thames Ditton and the records about this time and 50 odd years beforehand were completely destroyed. Thanks for your tips. I had tried most of the parishes within 10 miles but probably not all - I should list them and then tick them off one by one. I have searched the Epsom non-conf. but probably not the others. Have you checked non-conformist Parish registers as well........My Hilliers actually bounced between the two C of E and non conformist in the 1700's.......so don't discount them like I did for years. Is it possible that the second Mary was the wife of a son Christopher (of Christopher) It's hard I know, but because you have four missing children and missing deaths, have you tried Chessington PR's? Perhaps they returned to her home town for a spell......or moved with work....... The trouble when you get this far back is no census data, so really you are resorting to the IGI, The National death index, pallots marriage index and other such data.......even online trees, with the hope of confirming it yourself later. I tend to get very pedantic and search Parish registers within a 10 mile radius of the home Parish.......ie Epsom. You might narrow things down by asking if anyone on the list has particular parishes, thus elimiating them..... AND also googling for PR's online, perhaps eliminating others from your search quadrant. Hey cherub, if it was easy everyone would do it. Chuckle. Happy hunting. Pam I am forever trying to solve the Eggleton mystery in the mid 1700's in Epsom. I have searched all (I think all) of the Epsom church records. My 4x gt gf was Christopher EGGLETON (Egleton/Eagleton and even Aggleton are variations). There are many baptisms at the parish church Epsom with Christopher as the father starting with dau Sarah in 1754 wife Mary as the mother. They continue with Sarah as the mother - starting with Mary 1757 and ending with Robert 1782 and then the last one is another with Mary as the mother - James 1786. I have found the marriage of Christopher to a Mary Reynolds in neighboring Chessington in 1763. The 1754 entry is the earliest Epsom record of an Eggleton and I thought there was Christopher the elder, whose wife was Mary and they moved into Epsom and 1754 was the final child and the younger Christopher m. a Sarah and then had all the other children but what about the final one with mother Mary? OR - they got the names of the mothers wrong - there are 11 with mother Sarah - they can't have got it wrong 11 times. So who was Mary? Also I can trace every child except 4 in the middle Elizabeth 1764, John 1765, Thomas 1767 and Hannah 1770 they have just disappeared. I found the burial of a Christopher in Epsom in 1788 but nothing at all regarding the wives Sarah and/or Mary. Help would be gratefully received. Paul
No I haven't but there is a marriage of Elizabeth EGGLETON to John HASWELL in Abinger Dec 18, 1753 and the entry registers them as both from Epsom., which gives me a lot of hope that the Abinger ones are connected. If they were married in Abinger you would presume that she originally came from there but moved to Epsom - she would have been born say 1733, so may well be Christopher's sister. I will have to a more detailed search of this one. ________________________________ From: Chris Willis <[email protected]> To: Paul Eggleton <[email protected]>; [email protected] Sent: Sunday, June 26, 2011 11:58 AM Subject: Re: [SRY] Epsom EGGLETON Hi Paul have you managed to find a connection to the Shere area (Clandons, Shere, Albury, Wotton, Effingham)? The minus sign will look for references that to not indlude Sri Lanka. The plus sing will include referenes to a ship of that name. Jean Hunter Kent

Always read the label on the tin! Now that I have looked at the reverse of the WSFHS CD-15 it is clear why there are so few baptism records for Effingham - sorry to have ruffled the waters. Will take up the suggestion to visit my local LDS Center, they actually have one here in Longview, Texas. Thanks for the help. Hello all, Getting back to the family history after a break, and looking for help with missing ships. I have a 14 year old boy, an apprentice, lost at sea in 1879, 'supposed drowned'. Ship was City of Kandy, which was missing since January 27 1879, and the death registered in April 1879. I have not been able to find anything about this ship at all. I have looked on the ships list, and of course Google, and anywhere else that I can think of . I would be interested to know where the ship was going to, or coming from, and where it disappeared. A picture would be a bonus, but where do I look for the information. I am sure that someone out there with much more knowledge than me, (not difficult) will be able to put me on the right track. Thanks Jackie
Ah, Nivard, you have done it again. Now I have to wonder why I never thought to go there. Bill in Gig Harbor
