However there is one closer to 'home'. Has this one been eliminated? James Young and Mary Tullett 6 Nov 1786 after Banns at Dunsfold? (source WSFHS Surrey Marriage Index) Ann

    3. Is anyone researching Youngs in the Horley, Charlwood, Horne area? For years I have been stuck on James & Mary Young who have children Thomas (1789, Charlwood), Elizabeth (Charlwood, 1790), Henry (1795, Horley), Edward (1797, Horley) and possibly William ca. 1795. I am unable to find a likely marriage of James Young & Mary X; neither can I find a likely birth for James although I suspect he may be an unrecorded birth of James Young christened in Horley in 1754. Any help much appreciated! Alan Mills

    3. Dear Judy. You really are an angel! I think you might have cracked it. I have just downloaded the will of John Pavey, and although I haven't deciphered much of it yet, there is mention of "Lazarus my only son" who seemed to be not of full age at the time of the making of the will. I have used wills in the past, but only to confirm facts, or extend a family, not to take a "leap of faith" as it were, to try and establish a family link like this. Your last e-mail actually came through while I was downloading the will! Very gratefully, Daphne

    3. Daphne, Were you not able to access the PCC will I suggested earlier, for John PAVEY of Kingston upon Thames, proved 17 January 1798 (PROB 11/1301)? Since you last posted I have checked it out at the library, and it does mention his son Lazarus PAVEY. HTH Judy London, UK -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Daphne Harvey Hello, again, Nivard, and John B. I have been ruminating all week over LAZARUS PAVEY's birth. I felt quite sure his forename, as well as last name, came up with date and place of birth. I copied down what I thought I saw. But as you (and I) have been unable to find the complete data since, I must have jumped to the wrong conclusion, somehow. Thanks, anyway, for your intervention. I would rather be disappointed than go up the wrong tree. I must now try the lateral approach via other Pavey families. As I have been searching for about fifteen years I guess another one or two won't matter! Chastened, Daphne *

    3. Daphne, If I remember you thought you had found the record on the IGI? I think it is entirely possible that you found a record and cannot get the search to provide you with the same results. I have also experienced this and have even taken the problem to the local FHC without any answers as to why. My cousin and I have sat on the phone and do simultaneous searches that produce different search results! I do believe that their new system has some bugs with the databases that have not been sorted out yet. And by the way, Judy is my genealogy angel, it looks like she has found the info in the will that proves the parents of Lazarus that you need. She is a gem and a whiz at finding stuff!! Philip COOKE birth/christening 6th April 1759 Dorking - however it is the marriage I am seeking - all known is that the lady's name is Elizabeth ... Earliest child found is a Mary Ann 13/2/1788, as an indication of a time around when a marriage took place. This basically all I have except for 3 other girls a bit later 1790 - 1792 all born Dorking. Philips parents are Richard Cooke and Elizabeth ... ?? Any help gratefully received. Renee.

    3. Renee The Surrey Marriage index ( West Surrey FHS CD2). It is declared complete for rural Surrey. The old version had one vaguely relevant marriage SRY Sutton 1775 25 Sep COOK Philip WELLS Elizabeth, both of this parish unfortunately the index does not indicate if they signed, or who the witnesses were. I have not checked the catalogue, but I expect this register can be seen at Surrey History Centre in Woking. Also probaby at the LDS by arrangement. The new (2010) version has in addition a metropolitan one: SRY Southwark, St John Horsleydown 1774 23 Jan COOKE Philip GREEDY Elizabeth by banns This is the totality of Philip Cook or Cooke marrying an Elizabeth. The metropolitan marriages are not yet complete. If they went to Southwark, why not across the river?
