Hello Colin I have spent the last 6 years searching for my father's first wife who lived in South Africa only to finder her ashes in this cemetery. Would there be a plaque of something? Elsie May North was cremated at the Croydon Crematorium on 22nd April 1983, her ashes were scattered at location 46 in the Garden of Remembrance. Per: Bereavement Services Advisor, Community Services Croydon Crematorium and Cemetery Office, Mitcham Road, Croydon, CR9 3AT. Or a picture of this location would be appreciated. If there are any names you are interested in please let me know and I can send photo's. This part of the cemetery is very derelict as the Council is hell bent on destroying the graves including C. W. Dear List, Many thanks to Paul, for his help with this query. I was able to trace Barbara Ann Hunt's, mother Ann Clark DEEDY and her family back a little further and solve the mystery of surname. That was absolutely wonderful, and much appreciated. I would still like to find John Hunt born c.1808 Christ Church, Surrey (1851 Census). Are there any parish registers that can be searched in Surrey? There are no marching records on the IGI. >From London Evening Post ( London, England ), August 26, 1738 - August 29, 1738; Issue 1683. Last Saturday William HOARE , Richard KILBURN , William COOPER , and Stephen SUTTON , alias ST. IVES , for robbing on the Highway were executed at Kingston, at which Place they were attended by the Rev. Mr. FISHER , Curate of Kingston Parish. COOPER said he was guilty of the Fact for which he was going to suffer. SUTTON declared that he was innocent of the Fact for which he was condemned; that he had no more dread of being hang'd than dying in his Bed, and that he never stop'd Man, Woman or Child in his Life, with an intent to rob them, but that he freely forgave the Person that swore against him. KILBURN denied the Fact, said he had been guilty of several Crimes, and had formerly been transported. William HOARE , who was quite stupid, either with Fear or Sickness, or quite ignorant of his unhappy Condition, declared he was innocent, and that they had taken away his Life wrongly. After they were cut down, the Bodies of SUTTON , KILBURN , and COOPER were buried at Kingston, and HOARE at Wandsworth.
You don't say why you are interested in Mr Shaw, but there is a Shawford Road in W. Ewell and a Shaw Close in Epsom. I once saw a map showing which bits of land were owned by who. On this map was an area of land owned by Mr J Shaw. So presumably Mr Shaw was once an important person/landowner in the area. I will try to discover more! Andrew Cox West Ewell

Hi Michael is it possible that you made a mistake? Certainly someone has. "Crowhurst" does not compute. It is almost certainly Crowthorn (the current strange E hadn't yet been appended). Although I was unable to find Dewson in the directories on the Historical Directories site, I did find Elizabeth's FreeBMD entry: TALBOYS Elizabeth 83 Easthampstead 2c 341 (March qtr, 1875) which wd be right for Crowthorn. (And Sandhurst, the parish it was in at the time). There was little there, just Cro Tech (Wellington) and Broadmoor, and some housing for the workers. Hi Rowena, I found the transcription record of Barbara Ann Hunt (but no image) on ancestry Feb 21, 1832 at Christchurch to John Richard Hunt and Ann Clark and it also gives the maternal grandfather's name of John Christian DEEDY. I will look to see if I can find anything on him. ________________________________ From: Rowena Gough <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Monday, August 15, 2011 1:26 AM Subject: [SRY] Hunt Family Dear List Would someone be able to help me with this Hunt family? My GG grandmother is Barbara Ann HUNT, born Christ Church, Surrey. She emigrated to Australia in 1853, and married a Cornishman John SHUGG in 1854. I've found her parents and siblings in the 1841 and 51 Census, and her siblings baptisms. But I would dearly like to find her parents marriage, and if possible, their baptisms. John Richard HUNT was born c. 1808 Christ Church. He married Ann Clark Unknown c.1831, presumably in Surrey. FreeBMD gives his death as Sept Qtr 1854, Lambeth RD. His wife Ann Clark Unknown was born in Surrey c. 1811 (1841 Census), and her death was registered in the Sep Qtr of 1849, Newington RD. Their children were: * Barbara Ann bpt. 21 Feb 1832 Christ Church, Surrey * Samuel John bpt. 9 May 1834, Lambeth, Surrey * John Richard bpt. 5 Apr 1837 Christ Church, Surrey * James Charles born March Qtr 1830, Camberwell RD * William Frederick born Sept Qtr 1841, Camberwell RD * Louisa Jane Still born Sept Qtr 1848, Newington RD If anyone has researched or is connected to this family, I would be happy to hear from you. With kind regards, Rowena *************************************** Send your List messages using **PLAIN TEXT** and always **TRIM AWAY** superfluous old messages in replies.
