Was he disabled? A release date of 1916 from the War would indicate that he was - maybe the Yorks fund was a charity for disabled soldiers? I can't find any mention of it on google, though. -- Regards Dave

I imagine it means "was he still alive at the time of the marriage"; not now!!  Sounds like he was as the Yorks Fund sounds like some kind of pension Fionnghal > So he would be at least 111 years old !!!! > > -----Original Message----- > From: [email protected] > Subject: [SRY] re; Occupation? > > Hi I recently found  marriage cert and I was looking to see if my great > grandfather Henry Lynn was still alive, on the marriage cert it says for > his occupation Yorks Fund? 3. Hi Caroline I presume you mean you wanted to check the marriage cert to see if the father was recorded as deceased I haven't come across it specifically but there were many societies and charities who gave aid to soldiers Is yours the one in the pension records on Ancestry ? There is a chance he was working for the Yorks Fund rather than just receiving funds from it Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Hi I recently found marriage cert and I was looking to see if my great > grandfather Henry Lynn was still alive, on the marriage cert it says for his > occupation Yorks Fund? You said that you were searching to see if he still alive............but I guess that you meant at a certain time.Yorks are what the Yorkshire regiments are known as http://www.army.mod.uk/infantry/regiments/10690.aspx. I see this P.C.C. will at the National Archives: Thomas Milton, Cooper of Stortford, Hertfordshire 13 June 1689 ref.PROB11/395 If you have sound evidence of the Egham connection, then have you considered these P.C.C. wills, too?
