On the death certificate of my great-great-grandfather, William Harrison (who died 24 May 1888 at 3 Victoria Street, Forton, USD), the informant, present at the death, was named as 'C. Ryman, Grandson, Florence Cottage, Upper Mill Lane, Elson'. However, before I obtained the death certificate, I had not heard of C. Ryman! He is not at that address on the 1881 census nor on the 1891 census. However, having looked at C. RYMANs on the 1881, the following is possible because William Harrison was, at one time, based at the Royal Marine Barracks at Forton. I.C.J RYMAN U 21 M Madras British Subject, India Occ: Corporal R M L I Institution: "Royal Marine Barracks" Forton Census Place: Alverstoke, Hampshire, England. On the 1891 census, he is age 31, Sergeant R Marines, with his wife Mary and children, at 6 Alexandra Road, Forton, Alverstoke, and his place of birth is given as Bath, Somerset! Can anyone, please, help solve this puzzle? because I would love to know if this RYMAN is the informant referred to above, and, if so, how he fits into my family! TIA.
