My family name is de Young. They often referred to themselves as "Scotch-English". An aunt of mine said she thought the name might be originally Dutch. Is the name English? In searching I find de Youngs both in the UK and the Netherlands. I know they lived in the UK of before about 1860 but could they originally come from the Netherlands? What is the significance of the "de" prefix? I would appreciate any general help that could be offered. Thank you.
