Hello everyone, This is my first post to this list, and I hope it will be a succesful one !! I am researching the descendants of my great-great grandparents, Isaac Westerby Batley and Eliza Batley (nee Sketcher). Isaac (Westerby) Batley was born in 1855 at Walsoken, Norfolk & Cambridge - his mother was Susan Batley, while the birth certifcate does not show his father's name. However, he used the middle name Westerby throughout his life, and I have found two Westerbee brothers in the Wisbech union workhouse in the 1851 Census, so I assume one of these fellows was my Isaac's father. Isaac Westerby Batley married Eliza Sketcher in 1877 at Wisbech, Cambridge. Their children were as follows: Charles Batley b 1879 Wisbech, Cambridge Thomas William Batley b 1880 Wisbech, Cambridge Susan Elizabeth Batley b 1881 Peterborough, Northampton Horace Batley b 1884 Wisbech, Cambridge George Batley b 1886 Wisbech, Cambridge Herbert Batley b 1889 Wisbech, Cambridge George Batley was my great grandfather, and he married Minnie Parker in 1910 in Hull, Yorkshire. George Batley was killed in action in October 1918, five weeks before the end of the First World War. The only other information that I have on George Batley's siblings is that Susan Elizabeth Batley married George Charles Fox in 1911 at Wisbech, Cambridge. If anybody is researching this family, or knows any other information about this family, I would be most interested, and I would be pleased to hear from you.
