    3. Hello All: A terrific new entry has been added to the STOTT website at www.stottshot.com. It is a STOTT History by Dr. Richard Stott of California. Richard has been an active Stott historian for many years and he has kindly agreed to share the results of his considerable research on the Stott site. You don't have to be related to Richard to benefit from or enjoy his good work. A useful portion of his research focuses on such matters as the origins of the STOTT name, Viking roots, coats or arms and various lines of Stotts in Lancashire and Yorkshire. These two neighbouring counties in England are home to about 90 percent of English Stotts. Richard has gathered much detail on the early Stotts in northern England right back to the 11th century. Many photos and maps add visual interest. He also chronicles the experiences of the line of Stotts who were among the first converts to the Mormon religion. This is fascinating history with a branch of Stotts in Lancashire making a perilous journey from England, across the Atlantic and eventually to Utah. It was an extraordinary testament to faith and the promises of a new land. Polygamy was part of the Mormon lifestyle in the 19th-century and Richard addresses this interesting topic as well. Richard also recounts some of the more cherished moments from his visits to Lancashire in search of old family locations. Here's a portion of text of text from his discovery of Ladywell Farm: "The barkeep, aware that I was a foreign tourist, asked me what I was doing in Ripponden & I told him that I was seeking information about my English family, their birthplaces & history. I told him that my great-grandfather was born in a place called Ladywell, Soyland & that other family members had lived in Ripponden & Rishworth for many generations. To my utter astonishment, he replied, 'You're standing about a hundred yards from Ladywell Farm, the property goes up the hill for about a quarter mile'. He added, 'I'll introduce you to the owner, he's standing over there having a pint with his friends.' " There is lots of browsing to be done with this new entry (actually several entries as you'll see on the "Contents" page). Enjoy and look to "What's New" link to find out what else has been added recently. There are two links to Richard's Stott History, both near the top of the page and further down the Home Page. I'm hoping to add a Search feature on this website in the near future to facilitate the tracking of names but, in the meantime, you'll have to rely on the "Find" feature found under edit on your browser to locate names on individual pages.
