Dear folks, I am looking for a James Barrett, probably alias Seamus Barrett, alias Bappead, who lived on Liverpool Road, Deansgate, Manchester 3, England. The following is what is known about him. 1880c - James Barrett born in Ireland ? 1906 - James Barrett was the best man at the wedding of Thomas Joyce and Teresa Clarke in Dundalk, Louth Co., Irl. Teresa was from Manchester and was a dressmaker. Thomas, it is believed, went to Manchester to become an electrician where he met Teresa. 1907- James (Seamus) Barrett on April 5th, became God Father to a daughter of the above Thomas and Teresa Joyce in the Parish of Fairview, Dublin, Irl. James signed his name as "James Barrett" in the church register. 1910 - Seamus Barrett alias Bappead, wrote a letter to Dublin from # 9 (nine) Liverpool Road, Deansgate, Manchester, M3. It seems that he was involved with the Sinn Fein movement and quite probably the Manchester Sinn Fein Club. He wrote about the politics of the time. His wife was alive in 1910. 1935 - Seamus Barrett, whose wife had died on Aug. 31, 1931, wrote a letter from # 19 (nineteen) Liverpool Road to Thomas Joyce in the U.S.A., as the latter with his family had moved their in 1912. - - - - - - - If anyone has any information to help locate James\Seamus Barrett and his family would you please contact me. Your kind consideration of this request would be greatly appreciated. PLEASE reply to my personal e-mail address barrett@vaxxine.com All the best to you in 2002. Sincerely, Dan Barrett Canada

Any help on these ladies' families would be greatly appreciated, as follows: John and Sarah (Parkes?) Wakelam (late 18th, early 19th century). GGGG grandfather/mother. 5 children. Info required on John and Sarah. . Joseph (son of above) and Elizabeth Yates. Married 1827. Edgbaston, Birmingham. GGG grandfather/mother. 11 children. Info required on Elizabeth Yates. George (son of above) and Emma Powney married 1867 Birmingham. GG-grandfather/mother.12 children. Info required on Emma Powney. Arthur (son of above) married Emma Cartwright 1903. G-grandfather/mother.3 children. Info required on Emma Cartwright. George (son of above) married Beatrice Emily Sparkes 1930. These were my grandparents.Info required on Sparkes family only, not my grandmother, as I obviously knew her! With the kind help of someone who has carried out an extensive search on the patrilineal side of the family, I have been able to collate much info and add it to my own.
HI Listers You will undoubtedly remember the event the start of the 1901 census site, the event that you have been patiently waiting for, well if those years were scuppered because the site crashed due to over use, your favourite radio station THE BBC was a contributor, a certain sandy Jones on SOLENT radio was encouraging everyone to get stuckin and find your grand-parents abode, would'nt that be fun? I'm researching the name GOULTHORP(E) in West Yorkshire. The family I'm interested in were all descended from a George Goulthorp, originally Goldthorp(e), who was born about 1808 in Dodworth, near Barnsley, but moved to the Wakefield area where he married Ann HARGREAVE in 1830. The family eventually settled in Stanley, to the north of Wakefield, in the 1850s, after which the spelling seems to change to the Goulthorp(e) version. While I'm interested in any Goulthorp(e)s who are part of this family, I'd also like to hear of any unconnected instances of the name, to get an idea of how common it is around the country. Happy New Year! Helen.
My family name is de Young. They often referred to themselves as "Scotch-English". An aunt of mine said she thought the name might be originally Dutch. Is the name English? In searching I find de Youngs both in the UK and the Netherlands. I know they lived in the UK of before about 1860 but could they originally come from the Netherlands? What is the significance of the "de" prefix? I would appreciate any general help that could be offered. Thank you. BARRELL - Nellie (Eleanor, Ellie, Helen ???) BARRELL, Born approx 1889 apparently in Coulsdon, Surrey. Married Ernest James Rickard of Wingrave, Bucks. Here goes: I have just found out that my Thomas Docker chr. 1804 in Mid Town, Newby, Westmorland, had these sisters, which I wondered if you would look up in your l851 census to see if children existed for them. My notes say that they each had issue. Elizabeth Docker b l796 in Bampton, d in l884 in Bampton. She m. ROBERT HOGARTH. Margaret Docker was christened on 30 JAN l807 in Bampton and m THOMAS CAMPLIN (who was b in l796, and d l884). They m. in l836. Agnes Docker, christened on l4 DEC 1814 in Bampton, Westmorland m 20 APR 1843 in Bampton to DAVID KIRKBRIDE of Bampton Hall. Can you find children for any of these couples? Thomas Docker, my ancestor was christened on 25 DEC 1804 and m. Elizabeth Smith, who I hope is the dau. of John and Margaret Smith of Kings Meaburn. He was buried 23 AUG 1854. What is "Mid Town"? Thomas was b in Mid Town, Newby, which he inherited. Thomas had brothers, but I don't know if they had issue or married. John Docker, chr. l794 d l849 Robert b l798 Would there be a library in this area which might hold some DOCKER genealogy? I have some pages copied from the l9l7 book by Lissant. Wondered how I could find out if there were others that exist, expecially for the Thomas Docker branch. I don't know the name of the libraries in this county, or their addresses. would you have that kind of info? Connie Beck
