    1. [ENG-SURNAMES] STOTT Website Update
    2. Greg Stott
    3. There are a few new entries and updates on my Stott website at www.stottshot.com. First, the indexes to all STOTT marriages between 1837 and 1900 are now complete. With a majority of Stotts having roots in the West Riding & Lancashire, the indexes are a useful research tool. Most interesting among the new entries perhaps are several stories on Stottville, located in Columbia County, New York. It was named after a family of Stotts who settled there in the 19th century. Foremost was Jonathan Stott, a Lancashire born soldier who had fought against Napoleon for The Duke of Wellington. After that campaign, Jonathan found himself in the War of 1812 and representing the British in Ontario. How he ended up in the U.S. and how Stottville developed is a fascinating account and you can read the details in a link on the Home Page found under "FOR STORIES FROM THE STOTT FAMILY TREE NEWSLETTER AND OTHER SOURCES...". The specific link is titled "Stottville, New York - With roots in Lancashire, The War of 1812 and Jonathan Stott." For some family tree information. see the story "A History and Chronology of Jonathan Stott and Descendants". It's a rich account of a pioneer family that became one of the wealthiest in New York state. Another new link is titled "The Stotts of Elland" and it provides source data on Stotts from this particular parish of Yorkshire. Many Stotts have their roots in Elland including some who migrated from neighbouring Lancashire many centuries ago. Another new addition to the Stott website is a story titled "The Stotts of Liverpool - Ahoy!" It focuses on the family of W.H. Stott who rose to prominence in Liverpool shipping in the 19th century. All the new entries are marked "NEW" in red font to help you locate them. Anyone who would like their Stott interests included in the list of Stott Researchers - also available via a Home Page link - is welcome to forward a brief description on their interests. Likewise, I welcome any interesting STOTT stories. Regards to All Greg Stott Toronto, Canada www.stottshot.com --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. 1. [ENG-SURNAMES] Mayes
    2. HAZEL CLARKE
    3. Hello I was wondering if there was anyone who could help me. I am looking for any information on the family of Eva MAYES who was born in Leicestershire and who died in about 1975/75. She married Lloyd ALLEN and possibly moved to Loughborough after they were married. We think they had about 7 children, 4 girls and 3 boys. One of their children is Pearl who married Fred Murrell and settled in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. Unfortunately I do not have any more information as I am posting this on behave of my partners family who have only just started doing their research but if it sounds familiar to anyone I would love to hear from you. Many Thanks in advance Hazel

    1. [ENG-SURNAMES] Taverner family
    2. Thea
    3. Hello. A new member writing in. Trying to connect my branch of the Taverner family to others - no luck so far. The earliest ancestor who I have any information on is Joseph TAVERNER who I think died in 1727. No location and no wife's name known to me. His son Joseph Taverner married Elizabeth LEWIN and died in 1800. Joseph had sons William and John. John (1768-1811) married May APPLETON. John's children were: John, Lewin, Edmund, Mary, Helen and Emily. Anyone have any other information? Thea Jenkins Peterborough Ontario CANADA

    1. [ENG-SURNAMES] Sheila DONOVAN (DONAVAN), London & Canada
    2. My wife, Patricia Joyce Stephens wants to contact her girlhood friend, Sheila DONAVON (DONOVAN) or her family in England. Sheila was in London until mid 1950s (probably 1957) when she went to Canada, at that time her family was still living in Eastham, London. She had sisters, one was Margaret (Peggy). Sheila and her family had lived through the Blitz in London. It is believed that Sheila married a Gary VALGARDSON in Canada, but might have returned to England to help care for her parents. I would appreciate any information on this family that might lead me to Sheila's whereabouts. Charles Beal CEBeal@aol.com
