Undeterred, the Scots in 1548 betrothed Mary to the French King Henri II's heir, the Dauphin Francis, and sent her to be brought up at the French Court. It is said that the spelling of the royal family name of Stewart changed to Stuart at that time, to suit French conventional spelling. The non-royal branches of the family very likely kept the Stewart spelling
The Royal family is spelled STUART. I have both variations in my own ancestry from the late 1600s and early 1700s in America. Have not been able to track back either one of them so far. I hope SKS may be able to help me. If it wouldn't be too much trouble, please, I would love for SKS to point me in the right direction. I have heard that there are Stewart volumes? But I don't know what is being talked about. I'm sure you can tell me which volume if any of my folks are in them and if there is a subscription to them or a newsletter or something? I have been told that our ancestor as far back as we know about was Walter Stewart a cousin of King Charles Stewart the Second. Here is a quote from the book - BIOGRAPHICAL AND GENEALOGICAL HISTORY OF APPANOOSE AND MONROE COUNTIES, IOWA. by S. Thompson Lewis of 1903 P. 418-423: JOHN CRATON McDONALD "Mary Stewart, who was born September 15, 1816, in county Londonderry, Ireland, and was a daughter of Craton (Creighton) and Nancy (Sloan) Stewart. Her father was a son of Sir John Stewart, whose father was a son of Walter Stewart and a cousin of King Charles the Second, and removed from England to county Antrim, Ireland, in 1648. In the year 1816 Craton Stewart emigrated to the United States and settled in Allegheny county, Pennsylvania. There he spent his remaining days and it was in that county that the parents of our subject married on the 25th of November, 1841. They took up their abode in Mercer county, Pennsylvania, and there lived until April, 1852, during which time six children were born to them. With their family they then moved westward, locating in Lee county, Iowa, and in March, 1854, came ! to Appanoose county, Iowa, settling in Cincinnati, where they resided until called to their final rest." Here is my direct line as we now have it. 1. Walter Stewart + unknown 2. unknown Stewart + unknown 3. Samuel Stewart + Matilda Clark 4. Sir John Stewart + Katherine Junck 5. Craighton John Stewart + Nancy Sloan 6. Mary Stewart + Daniel McDonald 7. Nancy Sloan McDonald + Henry Jaquiss If SKS would have any idea if any of this is true or how it relates to the Stewart Kings of England or where to research it, or to research this family at any stage in any of the places mentioned I would surely appreciate it. TIA Deborah JAQUISS in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, DC, USA

Hi all, Anymore FREE look ups anyone? If I didn't answer your request then you were accidently deleted in the shuffle. Just resend it. If you don't have all the info, send me what you do have and I'll see what I can do. If it's too much then I'll let you know. Please read carefully... 1. Everyone alive, in the US by June 1st, 1880 is indexed. 2. You do not need an exact year of birth, the search allows for a 5 year difference either way. The year of birth could be different with each census. It is hardly ever accurate! The closer the better. 3. You do not have to tell me this but sometimes it lowers the hits if you don't have much info. What is the race? Black, White, Mulatto, Native American or Mexican? 4. Oklahoma Territory is not in the census. 5. Again...unless it's uncommon, I need a first and last name. 6. If you don't have much info then you can try giving me the names of a spouse and/or children that I might find on the 1880 census living with the person you're looking for. What you'll receive from me... 1. The name of the head of household and everyone living in it. 2. The relationship of everyone to the head of household. If the relationship is listed as other, then they are not related. 3. The age, race and sex of everyone. 4. The occupation of everyone. 5. The birth place of everyone and their parents. 6. Microfilm info. There is no limit on how many look ups you can request, I only ask that you limit it to 2 surnames per email. My website is coming back to life slowly but surely. You can check it out now or you can try agin in a day or 2 if it doesn't work. http://members.aol.com/ella12866/index.html Take care, Ella

I already have a BAILES in the project as well as BEAL,BEALS,BEALE, BEALL, BELL surnames! If you come across a living male descendant of the BALES surname anywhere in the world, please point them in my direction to participate in the project. I am a volunteer and unfortunately, do not have a sponsor for my project! The cost is quite reasonable for testing, I have negotiated one of the lowest prices in the world for DNA testing in my project.
