A friend of mine has been looking for Westbury cousins in England. Hope someone can help out. Betty
Interested in PLUMLEY from North Somerset, esp. Clevedon and Walton-in-Gordano (1860s and earlier) Has anyone heard the legend of a man from Wrington, Somerset who had 10 sons? Remnants of this story were told to me by an uncle. We (my immediate family) are reportedly descended from this Wrington family. Also interested in making contact with blood relatives of Frank R. Plumley who travelled on the famous 1901-4 expedition to Antarctica with Captain Robert Falcon Scott on the HMS Discovery. I know that he had a son who emigrated to Australia. Am researching Crickmar, Steel, Hirschfeld and Atkinson. Have found G Grandfather William Crickmar b.1815 (don't know where)married to Throza or Toroza b. 1816(no surname known) date unknown for marriage. They then lived in Colchester (St leonards), where Grandfather Thomas and his brothers were born. My Paternal Grandfather and Gmother were Thomas Steel and Sarah Baker who lived in West Ham (which I am surpised to find was in Essex. I guess they were married about 1865/75. If any SKS could check with 1871 census I would be grateful. As a silver surfer I have no living relatives to check with having left things far too late. TIA Roy Steel
Greetings! I am researching the surnames MACKWOOD (also McWood) and SOWOOD from Yorkshire before 1870. My ancestor was William Henry McWood whose father was William McWood (Mackwood) and mother was Julia Soughweed (Sowood). I think their original surnames changed spelling upon arrival in the US. William Henry was born in Michigan USA and his father was said to have been a ship's captain. Thanks so much for any tips! Peggy McWood
