Hi Dawn - You should get in touch with Eric Harrison. his address is at the end. I should have said that it is best if you are in the Uk and especially better if you are in Staffordshire. There are several jobs that have to be done . and here are a few I know .... Transcribe - Eric gives me a wodge of photo copied sheets which are for either an Area or a Church. Areas for Births and Deaths and Churches for marriages - for churches read any building where a wedding could take place. Eric also gives you a little program that runs on any computer . You run it and it asks three things Surname, Formname and page ...... And as you look at the sheet it is also in the same order. so its just a matter of opening the program, type the three words that appear on the sheet, then pres enter and do the next line and so on until you have completed one register- One reg normally equals 500 lines- it aint daunting at all. Once started you can stop the program and have a rest - sometimes days in my case - then yoiu just start again from where you left off. Once the regis complete - you can email the file to Eric and say what it is - That is printed on the front sheet of the papers. You start another one .......then send it to eric..... When he get the datafiles he sorts it into a page orer and then goes to the registrars and checks the input againb the indexes and where anomalies show up- and there are many - with the registrars authority he corrrects our indexes and tells the registrar where his/her indexs are wrong !!! and they are in some cases . SO you see all the tech bits are done by Eric and Bill . His address is [email protected] Yes it is ric and not eric Other jobs that people do are :- xeroxing the original registars index - to send out to the likes of me delivering sheets to folks houses . I know Eric is well on the go with LEEK, STOKE ,NEWCASTLE and Litchfield but there are plenty of other registrars in staffysher who are still to come on board. Are you in Staffs or external - Anyway if you can help - drop eric a line- but please dont feel under any obligation.
