The marriage certificate for my grandfather at Shelton Parish Church Aug 7th 1892 gives his name as Daniel Sherlock aged 22 and his fathers name as Reuben Sherlock. I cannot find any birth registered for a Daniel Sherlock anywhere within 2 years of 1870. However I have the birth certificate of Reuben Sherlock son of Reuben Sherlock.The younger Reuben was born 4th Aug 1869. Having found the Sherlock family including the younger Reuben on the 1881 census I am unable to find either the younger Reuben OR Daniel on the 1891 census. I have found Daniel on the 1901 census but no younger Reuben. I am convinced in my own mind that "Daniel" was in fact the younger Reuben but I just cannot think of anyway that I can prove my suspicians to be correct.
