Hi Les & list, I had been delighted to find a name like COLCLOUGH in my tree, thinking how unusual it sounded...until I looked in Stoke On Trent! Hundreds of them! worse then Smith! (Everyone's nightmare name)I have the 1841 census on CDs and am working my way through, so far in Fenton, Longton and a couple of other places I have found about 50 COLCLOUGH families, none of which have my Eliza!!!! At the York family history fair Ibought a brilliant CD with Stoke on Trent 1851 census on, not only with the images on but also a Surname index which takes you straight to the pages you want. I finally got to the end of the COLCLOUGHs and second from the end found Eliza aged 18 born in Longton (Should have been father Joseph, but mum down as widow so fine) I jumped around the room yippeeing. I thought I would just note down the last family before I finished, when Oh no!! another Eliza aged 17 born Longton, mother married but father not there! so back to square one. I checked on my noted 50 COLCLOUGH families from 1841 and neither of these Eliza families can be right as the fathers have different names. So, if anyone comes across a Joseph COLCLOUGH with a daughter Eliza (b. abt.1835, Longton) in the Stoke On Trent area, I would be very grateful if you could let me know. I have Eliza after her marriage to Joseph Mansell (1854) in 1881,1891,1901, but know very little about her family except fathers name. Also if anyone has the indexes for 1861/1871 for Longton, if it is not too much trouble I would love to know if Joseph (b.1833, Salop/Shropshire, shoe maker) and Eliza MANSELL had any other children apart from Martin James MANSELL(My gt gt Grandfather). They lived in Longton (in 1881/1891 it was Normacott rd) I am happy to do lookups in the above censuses,I also have 1841/1891(yorkshire) 1851 warwickshire/devon/norfolk / durham 1841 and 1851/1861 east yorks and york. Thank you in anticipation, Dawn (from muggy Leeds ;o)) )
