    3. Henry LEIGHS b1809 Endon Staffs. Staffordshire Records cannot find his baptism in Endon or Leek. You should try HORTON, Norton in the Moors, Cheddleton, Bucknull- cum-Bagnall - Whilst he may have first recollections of Endon he may well have been born in any of those parishes - they are only a mile or so from differnt parts of Endon. I would certainly look at those before Leek He was a "China man" and dealer in china and glass with a workshop of some sort employing several people in Guildford. As was his father, John, before him according to Henry's marriage cert. Sometime before 1838 Henry moved from Stafford to Lambeth, and the only connection I could think of between the two places and chinaware is Doultons- All Major Potbanks had offices in London - Wedgwood, Spode etc.. Then, as now, the place to sell to those with Money was the Smoke. All the foreign buyers would be looking around the smoke to see what was In vogue and what was not. Nowts changed I also have noticed that nearly all the LEIGHS' on FreeBMD are recorded Stoke on Trent, the spelling of the name being consistent. Leigh is a very common pottery name and the spelling is also consistent, though in the early 1800s and before dont discount LEE, LEA or LEES, LEAS. Steve

    3. Not forgetting the spelling LEESE - if I remember rightly, there was (is?) a Funeral Director of that name at the foot of Dividy Road, at Trent Bridge in Bucknall.
