Emigrants Who Went to America 1600-1700 - John Camden Hotton (Editor) A superb refence work which is of immense value to genealogists and family historians and is without doubt one of the most interesting books we have ever produed on CD. More than 500 pages of genealogical gold dust! Its full title is; "The Original Lists of Persons of Quality; Emigrants; Religous Exiles; Political Rebels; Serving Men Sold for a Term of Years; Apprentices; Children Stolen; Maidens Pressed and Others who Went from Great Britain to the American Plantations 1600-1700. With Their Ages, the Localities Where They Formerly Lived in the Mother Country, the Names of the Ships in Which They Embarked and Other Interesting Particulars." From the introduction: "Little could even the most sanguine of the early emigrants to America have contemplated the subsequent effect which their action would work upon history. Some of them, it is true, were men of position at home...... but by far the greater number was composed of comparatively obscure men." see Emigration page http://www.rod-neep.co.uk/acatalog/Archive_CD_Books_Emigration_23.html 2. As an example I have taken a page at random and here is what I found; Entries from *one* page of the RN Hospital 3 were born in Cornwall. 3 in Devon, 1 in Lancashire, 1 in Wiltshire, 2 in Middlesex, 1 in Somerset, 2 in Berkshire, 3 in Ireland, 1 in Yorkshire, 1 in Kent, 1 in Cheshire, 1 in Staffordshire, 2 in Scotland, 1 in Sussex and 1 in Isle of Man. Their ages range from 19 to 51. The Hospital is enumerated in 11 folios (22 pages), then there are the Barracks (11 folios), Plymouth Citadel (20 folios) and Millbay Barrack (8 folios).... no doubt there will be more! Food for thought.....? After more than a fortnight's work, indexing should be finished in the next two or three days, so the Devon census should start shipping next week :-) ________________________________________________________________ It may interest readers to know that Rod has recently opened a new website at http://www.british-genealogy.com dedicated to assisting people with their British family history research. This new site, which is still under development, contains details of the various resources of use to family history research, allowing the researcher to see how resources have developed over the years and what each resource actually contains. Also included is a tutorial of how to transcribe registers plus other useful resources. ________________________________________________________________ It is very pleasing to note that the orders for a number of counties census cds have now reached the level to allow some reduction in price, some have even qualified for three price reductions. Details of this may be seen at - http://www.rod-neep.co.uk/books/census/index.htm The potential is there to reduce these prices still further, if you are considering ordering a census cd do not delay, the final price of many of these census cds depends on the number orders that are received before the release date. Once the cd has been released that is the price everyone will pay. Do not delay order now and benefit. _________________________________________________________________ Don't forget to visit the Archive CD Books web page news where we bring you news, family history hints & tips, interesting articles, extracts from books and instructions on how to get the best from available resources all at : http://www.archivecdbooks.com/news/ To contribute stories, articles & snippets mail to : [email protected] Cheers Guy ==== CDBOOKS-NEWS Mailing List ==== The "Latest Releases" page on the web site gives regular details of special offers - and free CDs!
