Dear List: I recently followed up on an entry in the British Vital records II. The entry noted that Thomas LOCKLEY married Hannah DERRICK on March 16, 1862 at St. John's Church, Hanley. There was no film number referenced. Through the LDS I ordered the St. John's records (Marriage, Baptism and Burial) and found no marriage on the noted date, nor did I find any LOCKLEY entries on any of the records. I believe that the entry is correct as their son, my G.Grandfather William Lockley, was born about 1865 in Hanley but again no record of his birth. Please ... any suggestions where I could confirm the information...and find the family! Annette Richards Sonoma, California
I, too, am interested in the name LOCKLEY in Staffs. I have Ernest LOCKLEY b. 10 November 1849 in Gt. Haywood, Colwich (GRO birth certificate). The name 'Gt. Haywood' is from the 1881 UK Census. He m. Louisa SLATER in Derbyshire in 1869, and his father's name and occupation were given as 'Anthony LOCKLEY, Butler' (GRO marriage certificate). The christening record for Ernest LOCKLEY [Church of England. Parish Church of Colwich (Staffordshire), Bishop's Transcripts, 1659-1871, (Salt Lake City: Filmed by the Genealogical Society of Utah, 1965, 1966), FHL British Film 426529 Item 1] gives the names of his parents as Anthony and Julia LOCKLEY. An Anthony LOCKLEY was christened in the parish church of Colwich 29 September 1822. So it would seem that there were LOCKLEYs in Colwich for some time. I have been unable to discover any siblings of my Anthony LOCKLEY in Staffs. I have no idea whether there may be a connection with my Colwich LOCKLEYs and Annette's Hanley LOCKLEYs (below). Any interest or help would be greatly appreciated.
